Bowl games and Week 15 NFL Anaylsis

FOOTBALL HEADLINES Wyoming runs away with New Mexico Bowl in double overtime Rutgers stomps on UCF 45-24 to win St. Petersburg Bowl Ware's sacks help Dallas hand New Orleans their first loss New Mexico Bowl Under new head coach Dave Christensen, the Wyoming Cowboys were looking for a good football reputation. This win may earn them one. Wyoming rallied from an 11 point fourth quarter deficit and Austyn Carta-Samuels hit David Leonard for the GW touchdown pass. The Cowboys also held Fresno cold on 4 downs from the one yard line. After an interception set up a TD that had Fresno State up 28-17, Austyn Carta-Samuels threw a TD pass to David Leonard and he found Greg Bolling for 2 and Wyoming trailed 28-25. But Fresno State had a good punt return and they were facing third and four at the Wyoming 32. Ryan Mathews of Fresno State got the first, but the ball was stripped and recovered by Wyoming.

Ingram wins Heisman

Alabama running back Mark Ingram has won the Heisman by 28 points over Toby Gerhart of Stanford, making him the first Alabama Heisman winner. Ingram got the ball 249 times and he ran for 1536 yards and 15 touchdowns. His yards per carry average was 6.1, highest in the nation. The Bama big guy scored 3 receiving touchdowns and he showed his RB skills during a 69 yard reception against Florida that set up his 3 yard touchdown run. Other than the Auburn game in which Ingram rushed for 30 yards, his stats are mind-boggling. However, playing for Alabama and him being more popular than Stanford's Toby Gerhart might have given him an important edge. Ingram beat out Gerhart in first-place votes 227 to 222, and he won the closest Heisman race ever by beating Gerhart in points 1304 to 1276. Colt McCoy got 203 first place votes and 1145 points, Ndamukong Suh got 161 first place votes and 815 points and Tim Tebow got 43 first place votes and 390 points.

Heisman Trophy 2009

There are players from 8-4 teams and 12-0 teams that are stars, but the Heisman Trophy defines everything. Will it be Mark Ingram? Colt McCoy? Ndamukong Suh? Let's find out. Finalist descriptions Mark Ingram, RB, Alabama Ingram is a power running back that can break many tackles and score touchdowns on a run that most NFL running backs would get 2 or 3 yards. Alabama is going to the BCS Title and they are favored to win so I like Ingram's stock to rise there. He is also more popular then some finalists and he will get an edge there. Colt McCoy, QB, Texas McCoy struggled vs. Nebraska, but he was there for his Longhorns when they needed him most of the time, like vs. Texas Tech and Texas A&M. McCoy gained 478 total yards in a 49-39 win over arch-rival Texas A&M and he played big in most clutch situations. McCoy threw for 3512 yards and he threw 27 touchdown passes and he also ran for 348 yards and 3 scores on 128 carries. McCoy wants revenge in his senior year

Steelers vs. Browns recap

6-2. Tied for the division lead. Games vs. Oakland, Cleveland and Kansas City coming up. 0-5 was unimaginable for Steelers fans. Now they know it's true. Josh Cribbs rushed for 87 yards out of the Wildcat formation, Chris Jennings rushed for 73 yards and a score as Cleveland defeated Pittsburgh 13-6. With 7:20 in the first half, Cleveland had a 6-0 lead. Then, they finally got their offense going with 4:16 in the half. Facing 3rd and 3 at their own 33, Joshua Cribbs rushed 37 yards into Pittsburgh territory, and Chris Jennings found a hole to the left and scored to put Cleveland up 13-0. Pittsburgh fought right back, scoring on the last play of the first half to make it 13-3. The Steelers hadn't scored any points for the first 29:59. More defense occured until Pittsburgh scored a field goal with 0:08 left in the third quarter, and after 3 Cleveland led 13-6. After a big penalty took Pittsburgh out of field goal range, Cleveland got the ball. They got a first down an

Cal vs. Utah preview

This should be a very exciting game with Best or without Best, but the real challenge for Utah is to figure out what Cal team will show up. Will it be the team that got crushed at Washington or the team that beat Stanford. We'll see. Even without Jahvid Best, who gained 867 yards this season, Cal should be able to survive because Shane Vereen has ran for 830 and he has put up big numbers against Arizona and Stanford. Kevin Riley has played great in Cal's wins, but he and the rest of the Bears have played terribly in Cal's losses. For Cal to win, the Bears need to run the ball well, pass it well and play good pass defense, the main key. Terrence Cain has had a nice year for the 9-3 Utes, who are coming off of a stunning 26-23 OT loss to arch-rival BYU. But they need to stop Cal's rushing game and they need to take advantage of Cal's mediocre pass defense. 1032 yard rusher Eddie Wide will face the tough secondary of California, who have held superior rushe

Top 5 Bowl Games

1 TCU vs. Boise State I'm not going with the BCS Title here because I think Alabama has a huge shot of obliterating the Longhorns and Kellen Moore and the Boise offense will provide a real challenge for Jerry Hughes and the TCU defense. Andy Dalton is a great leader for TCU and he has led the Horned Frogs to wins over Clemson, Air Force, BYU, Wyoming and Utah, all bowl game qualifiers. This game is very exciting and it should be even more intense then last year's game, a 17-16 TCU win. I like the Frogs 35-31 in a very intense battle. 2 Alabama vs. Texas It will be interesting to see how Alabama's pass defense will perform vs. Colt McCoy, who had a very disappointing night in Texas's Big 12 Title win over Nebraska. On paper, Alabama seems like they could kill the Horns, because their defense would hold and Mark Ingram and Greg McElroy would get points on the board for Alabama. I like Bama here 34-17 and I think Mark Ingram is very worthy of a Heisman. 3 Iowa vs

Emerald Bowl Preview

Well, the Emerald Bowl won't feature any Toby Gerhart or Bobby Bowden, but Pete Carroll will take USC up to San Francisco to take on Frank Spaziani and Boston College. Matt Barkley lost a shot at the Holiday Bowl after Arizona upset the Trojans in the Coliseum 21-17, however the Emerald Bowl selected the Trojans instead of Oregon State, who fell at USC but still had one more conference win then the Trojans. BC freshman QB Dave Shinskie threw for 14 TD's and 13 interceptions but still played very well in clutch situations like in the Maryland game. He has a star running back in Montel Harris, who had 13 rushing touchdowns and rushed for 1355 yards. USC and Boston College both have weapons at receiver, USC having Damian Williams and Ronald Johnson and Boston College having Rich Gunnell. Gunnell is a threat, having caught 54 passes for 750 yards and 6 touchdowns, while Williams is a real dynamic threat. Ronald Johnson missed over half of the season due to injury. Joe M

Bears likely headed to Sun Bowl

Prior to the 2009 season, Cal fans said the Sun Bowl was "unacceptable". At this time, apparently they can accept it. With a win over Washington on Saturday, Cal has almost a guaranteed Sun Bowl berth. If Cal and USC win, the Bears can book flights to El Paso. If Arizona upsets USC and Cal wins, Cal might get picked over Arizona to go to the Holiday Bowl. If not, the Sun Bowl would pick them for a New Year's Day game versus probably Oklahoma. The Bears are the only team that has never been to the Sun Bowl, but Cal fans shouldn't get too excited. Their next opponent, Washington, beat USC and Arizona at home and they are coming off of a win over Washington State in the Apple Cup. I think Kevin Riley outplays Jake Locker and Shane Vereen has a big day and Cal will take the Huskies 37-17. Sun Bowl scouts and officials are very interested in bringing Cal to the game vs. a quality Big 12 opponent on New Year's Eve. Sun Bowl Pick: Cal 23, Oklahoma 17

Thursday Night Football Civil War

For the first time ever, the winner of the Civil War game was guaranteed a Rose Bowl berth. Jerimiah Masoli wanted to make sure that the Ducks were winners. Masoli threw for 201 yards and a 73 yard touchdown, and he made some key plays in Oregon's 37-33 win over Oregon State to win the Civil War and an invatation to play Ohio State in the Rose Bowl. LaMichael James ran for 3 touchdowns, including a 52 yard touchdown where he outran 3 Beavers to the end zone for a score. LeGarrette Blount ran for 51 yards and a touchdown where he broke 2 tackles and dove over a defender for a 15 yard score. An early interception helped Oregon State score early, but LaMichael James rushed for a 1 yard TD to tie it up at 7. OSU got a FG and the score was 10-7 after 1. Masoli found Jeff Maehl, who outran a defender to get the score. 2 Beaver field goals, 1 set up by a turnover had the Beavs up 16-14. LaMichael James found a hole after a nice drive and put the Ducks up 21-16, but Sean Canfield

Patriots vs. Saints recap

Drew Brees and the Saints knew that they would have to play their toughest game of the year to improve to 11-0 and 2-0 on Monday Night Football. They did just that. Drew Brees threw for an amazing 371 yards and 5 touchdowns, about 44.84 fantasy points. New Orleans is now 11-0 facing the Washington Redskins. His first TD was mainly Pierre Thomas, who took a screen pass, stayed in bounds and dove into the end zone for a touchdown. 3:02 later, Devery Henderson caught a 75 yard touchdown pass and Robert Meachem caught a 38 yard TD pass to put NO up 24-10 at halftime. Laurence Maroney cut the lead to 24-17, but Brees found Darrell Dinkins 1:22 later to make it 31-17 Saints after the third quarter. Brees found Marques Colston to seal the game and take a 38-17 decision. Laurence Maroney lost a fumble for New England but he scored 2 touchdowns and he rushed for 64 yards and he had some big gains early on, and he put the Patriots up 7-3 after the first quarter. The 7-4 Patriots p

Emerald Bowl situation

If anything, the Bay Area is known for sports. The Cal Golden Bears and the Stanford Cardinal highlight the college football teams, but the Bay Area's primary bowl game highlights a lot. Let's take a look at the Emerald Bowl situations. According to director Gary Cavalli, the game is looking to pin Florida State or Boston College against Stanford, Cal, or USC. My pick can be seen on my bowl projections here (different blog). For Florida State to go, they need to just not be picked by other bowls. It is the same situation for BC, who just needs Meineke Car Care and Music City bowl officials to think Bobby Bowden would draw a larger crowd coaching in his final game. For USC, they need to lose to Arizona and they would need Emerald Bowl officials to think USC would draw a larger crowd then other teams. However, with 2 other Bay Area teams that is unlikely. Cal needs a USC win, a win over Washington, Oregon State to beat Oregon and for Emerald Bowl officials to pick Cal

NFL Sunday

This Sunday has hosted some of the best games and performances of the 2009 NFL season. But, it has also had some of the most memorable finishes and plays in the NFL. Let's take a look. Seattle rode Justin Forsett's legs to a 27-17 win over division rival St. Louis. Forsett ran for 130 yards and 2 touchdowns. Carson Palmer threw for 110 yards and a touchdown and the Bengals defense powered Cincinnati to a 16-7 win over Cleveland. Alex Smith threw for 2 touchdown passes and in the second half the 49ers had 6 sacks and allowed 0 points in a 20-3 win over the Jaguars. Brett Farve threw for 3 touchdowns and the Viking defense forced 3 turnovers in a 36-10 win over division rival Chicago. Clint Sessions helped put the game away with his 28 yard pick-6 to help Indianapolis overcome a 17-0 deficit to beat Houston 35-27. The Colts are now 11-0. Darrelle Revis returned an interception 67 yards for a touchdown to give the Jets some momentum that helped them beat Carolina

Green Bay Packers vs. Detroit Lions Thanksgiving Day Football recap

Charles Woodson has been considered a candidate for the defensive MVP award, and today's performance on Thanksgiving Day will improve his stock. Just another thing Packers fans can be thankful for. Woodson intercepted 2 passes, and he stepped in front of a Matthew Stafford pass and returned it to the house to seal Green Bay's Thanksgiving Day victory at Detroit to take the lead in the Wild Card Standings. Aaron Rodgers continued his dominance by throwing for 348 yards and continued his great playing by throwing 3 touchdowns and making some amazing throws, like his bomb to Donald Driver that set up Donald Lee's touchdown. Donald Driver caught a 73 yard pass that set up the tying score to start the second that made it 7-7, and then up 13-7, Driver caught a 7 yard touchdown where he never lost his focus even after a hand went by the ball. Driver was awarded the Galloping Gobbler award by being the best player in the Thanksgiving Day game. The Lions have lost their

Thanksgiving Football

Well, it's Thanksgiving Day. And Thanksgiving means football from the sites of Dallas, Detroit, and this year the other D, Denver. And Texas and Texas A&M collide as A&M looks to clinch a bowl berth and Texas looks to keep it's BCS Title hopes alive. Let's break up the match-ups. Green Bay vs. Detroit The last time these 2 teams played, the Packers amazing defense led them to a 26-0 shutout at Lambeau. But now, all that matters is how Matthew Stafford's and Calvin Johnson's injuries will affect them and how they will fare against a Packer defense that allowed 0 points vs. Detroit and 7 points versus Dallas. Aaron Rodgers has been able to find receivers and he has picked most passing defenses apart. I don't look for a shootout like Detroit's 38-37 win over Cleveland last week or Green Bay's 37-26 Thanksgiving win here in 2007, but I like Green Bay to win 27-10. Oakland vs. Dallas The Cowboys only had 3 days to practice after their emotio

Big Game Preview

25th ranked California has been up and down all year, and after a 31-14 loss to Oregon State where Jahvid Best suffered a severe concussion, they beat Ariozna 24-16. However, Stanford is coming off wins over USC and Oregon, but they could eb on upset alert. Let's preview the game. Toby Gerhart has been considered a Heisman candidate by some, but he could have a tough time against Cal's secondary, who held Keola Antolin to 78 yards on 19 carries. That means that Stanford could have to turn to freshman quarterback Andrew Luck and receivers Ryan Whalen and Chris Owusu. But, Cal has a very bad pass defense, so that could be enough for Stanford. Jahvid Best will be out, but Shane Vereen ran for 159 yards versus Arizona last week so the Cardinal secondary could face a challenge. But Kevin Riley made some freshman mistakes, and he threw 2 interceptions last week so that could give the Card a break. Stanford's pass defense could give Cal fits with Bo McNally and Richard Sherm

Hofstra vs. Connecticut recap

When you look at a player to describe how good they are, there is usually one main category: points. Jerome Dyson impressed those people in that, and those NBA scouts who look for everything. Dyson scored 12 straight points, shot 14 for 15 from the free throw line and put up 23 points in Uconn's win over Hofstra. He also had 4 assists and 2 steals, in addition to the fact that he played great defense. Center Alex Oriakhi scored only 8 points, but he also grabbed 14 boards and swatted 4 balls. However, Dyson was the main part of Uconn forcing 11 Hofstra turnovers and an average of 32.9 percent from the floor. Connecticut shot 41.5 percent from the floor. Connecticut will face LSU in the NIT early-season tournament.

Arkansas Little Rock vs. Tulsa recap

Tulsa has been picked to win the C-USA by many people, and Jerome Jordan and Ben Uzoh provide many reasons. Maybe they didn't shoot that well going 24 for 59, 40.7 percent from the floor, but their defense did play well enough to win. Jerome Jordan finished with 19 points and scored 15 of Tulsa's 25 first half points in Tulsa's 59-45 win over Arkansas-Little Rock in the ESPN 24 hour College Hoops marathon. Both teams started slow and it was a defensive battle, but Jerome Jordan stole the show with 15 first half points as Tulsa nursed a 25-20 halftime lead. In the second half Jordan struggled but the rest of the team shined and Tulsa then took a 40-26 lead. The Golden Hurricane kept their lead and won 59-45. Tulsa held the Trojans to a percentage of only 32.7 percent from the floor. Ben Uzoh scored 9 and Donte Medder came off the bench to score 10 as Tulsa improved to 3-0. Northeastern vs. Siena 24 Hour Hoops Marathon

Trailing 20-6, Kevin Ubiles and Siena needed to come up with some way to score points on the swarming defense of Northeastern. They had only scored 6 points in 13:30. The defense and Ubiles provided that first half spark they needed to stay in the game and win it. Siena's man-to-man defense sparked a 12-0 run that cut Northeastern's lead to 20-18, but an amazing floater at the buzzer put NE up 26-20 at the half. But, Siena got off to a great start off of the break, and they took the lead. Then, leading 51-45, Northeastern held the ball a lot and had great ball possession. But the Saints D helped keep the game at that score and then they took a 10 point lead and held on for a 59-53 win. Northeastern went 22 for 63 from the floor, 34.9 percent while Siena went 20 for 52, which is 38.5 percent. Northeastern is 0-1 while Siena improved to 2-0.

ESPN 24 Hour College Hoops Mararthon Analysis

Well, it's that time of year. The 24 hour hoops basketball tip-off marathon is here. While some may be looking ahead to match-ups like Memphis-Kansas or Gonzaga-Michigan State, why don't you enjoy some games like Temple-Georgetown or Northeastern-Siena. Let's recap and preview the action. Cal State Fullerton 68, UCLA 65 2OT UCLA was trying to make a case for the Top 25. Being left out just short, UCLA hasn't made a case. Aaron Thompson scored 22 points, Jacques Streeter had 11 and hit a key 3 pointer in double oveetime and Cal State Fullerton upset UCLA for their first win at Pauley Pavillion over the Bruins. Cal State Fullerton played great defense and took a 10 point lead, but Malcolm Lee and Michael Roll helped force the game into overtime. UCLA had a chance to win on the last shot. Both teams hit a 3 pointer in overtime, and the game went into double OT. The Titans scored twice as Aaron Thompson and Jacques Streeter gave CSF a 5 point lead. Then, up 68

Jackson to Bobcats

Well, Stephen Jackson may have got his wish to be shipped out of the Golden State, but yet another team may not be the playoff contender Jackson was looking for. Stephen Jackson and Acie Law were shipped to Charlotte for Raja Bell and Vladmir Radmonavic, who are now Warriors. The Warriors took this offer instead of Cleveland's offer of Wally Scrazberiak and Delonte West. The Warriors were said to have accepted because it would help their payroll and that the 2 players would give them depth at the guard slot. Stephen Jackson wanted to be shipped to Cleveland, New York, Dallas, San Antonio, or Houston, but he has to be happy with this deal. He wanted out of Golden State: and that's what he got. Golden State has made trades in the past few years that have shipped away stars like Jason Richardson, Jamal Crawford and Jackson for less talented players but with a lower salary, and that seems to be working for free agency. Golden State signed Corey Maggette partly because o

Oregon vs. Stanford recap

Maybe it's the fact that Oregon was looking ahead at a trip to Pasadena or the fact that Stanford just gets lucky on letdown games but whatever it is, Stanford outplayed Oregon and won. Toby Gerhart showed his ability to break tackles by bulging through the line for 3 touchdowns and 200+ yards by leading Stanford to a 51-42 win over 4th ranked Oregon, opening up the race for the Rose Bowl. Chris Owusu returned the opening kick to the Oregon 16, and Stanford scored a FG off of that. He had some other decent returns as well and caught a 31 yard touchdown. Andrew Luck threw for 2 touchdowns. The Ducks fell to 5-1 in the Pac-10 and 7-2 overall, while Stanford became bowl eligible and improved their record to 6-3 and 5-2 in the Pac-10. Next week Stanford looks for their 2nd straight win at the Coliseum against USC, while Oregon takes on Arizona State.

Yankees Win The World Series (and my 200th post)!

The time goes by in New York, with every single Yankees fan waiting. When is New York going to get back on the national stage. They will wait no longer. Hideki Matsui hit a homer, a double and a single and knocked in 6 RBI's as New York cruised to a 7-3 win in Game 6 to clinch the World Series title. Mark Teixeira knocked in an RBI as well, and Andy Pettite pitched a great game, only allowing a sacrifice fly. But, when he left early (he only got 3 games rest), the Yanks turned to the bullpen to save the game. Dasamo Marte struck out Utley and Howard, and then Rivera came in. He ended the inning at 7-3. Then, in the top of the 9th, the Yanks got 2 outs, and then allowed a walk to Rollins, who stole second. But a Shane Victorino groundout sent the Phillies home and the Yankees to the top. This is New York's 27th title and their 40th appearance, and their first since 2000. The Yankees are my pick for all-decade team, winning in 00 and 09 and losing in the World Series

Le Moyne stuns Syracuse

Jim Boehiem knew that after a disappointing Sweet 16 exit, the team might not have all of that same talent. But he never pictured it to go down this way. Christopher Johnson scored 22 points, including the go-ahead 3 pointer and Laurence Ekperigin scoed 20 and grabbed 11 boards as D-2 Le Moyne stunned Syracuse, who is ranked 25th in the USA Today Poll. Wes Johnson scored 34, including a 3 from the corner that put Syracuse ahead with 22 seconds left. Johnson responded with a 3, and a free throw put Le Moyne on top. "We've got an experienced team", Le Moyne coach Steve Evans said. But, it is just an exhibition game, but it could end up having an impact on Syracuse later in the year. The Orange start their season with Albany and Robert Morris at home, then they go on the road to face 11th ranked Cal in a tournament.

Chambers To The Chiefs

Monday: Chris Chambers is released by the Chargers. Tuesday: He signs with the Chiefs. Chambers, the veteran that was acquired at the 2007 trade deadline by San Diego from Miami has had a rough season, with only 9 catches for 122 yards and a touchdown. Coach Norv Turner said they dropped him because of the emergence of WR Malcolm Floyd and their need to find a starting linebacker for Sunday's game against the Giants. Chambers should be a top target for Matt Cassel and will try to help turn Kansas City back into a winner.

Game 4 Recap

The New York Yankees were feeling the pressure. Alex Rodriguez was up with men on first and third. What did he do? He hit an RBI Double with 2 outs to put the Yankees ahead 5-4, and then Jorge Posada knocked in 2 runs to make the score 7-4. The Yankees stopped Philadelphia cold, and the Yankees took a 3-1 series lead with 2 games at home. The Yankees have won 3 straight. Cliff Lee pitches for the Phillies tomorrow night, and A.J Burnett goes on the mound for the Yankees. This is the Phillies last home game of the year no matter what. Is Duke for real?

Duke is a basketball school. We all know that. They have never been a football power. They still aren't, but they are second in the ACC Coastal. Coming off wins over Virginia, North Carolina State and Maryland, 5-3 Duke has momentum. Has QB Thaddeus Lewis led the team? Is it Desmond Scott, RB. Everyone has said, Duke will not go anywhere. But, they are tied for first in the ACC coastal and have co-leader Georgia Tech at home. The Blue Devils have the toughest part of their schedule ahead with North Carolina, Georgia Tech, Miami and Wake Forest. Even with the Devils record, I am questioning a bowl. Coming off of a emotional 28-17 road win at Virginia where Thaddeus Lewis only threw one score, but it was the go-ahead score in the Duke win. However, Duke only scored 13 points off of touchdowns, with the other score on Charlie Hatcher's 7 yard fumble return for a score. The Devils scored 15 off of field goals. Anyways, Duke needs to put the ball in the end zone t

24 Cal vs. Arizona State recap

24 Cal vs. Arizona State The home team had not lost since 2003 in this epic battle. That was not to be the case today. Jahvid Best and Marvin Jones each caught TD passes from Kevin Riley, who had 2 fumbles, and a nice drive capped of by big plays by Marvin Jones and Anthony Miller that started at the Cal 19 resulted in the GW field goal for the Bears. A dropped touchdown and 2 missed field goals took 13 points off the board for Cal, who could have won 36-21. But, Riley completed passes for a total of 73 yards in the GW drive for Cal. Cal took an early 14-0 lead with 2 Riley TD's, and a big stop where ASU started at the Cal 40. But, a 3 yard score off of a turnover and a 80 yard TD by Danny Sullivan to Kyle Williams tied the game at 14. Giorgio Tavecchio hit a FG to give Cal the 17-14 lead, and that was the halftime score. And, after a bit of a disappointment in State territory, Tavecchio hit a 51 yarder to give Cal the 20-14 lead. However, a great downfield drive w

USC vs. Oregon and other hauntingly fun halloween games

Oregon fans have been waiting for this one for over 2 years, when the 2 teams last met. But why is this one so special? Because it's: Halloween. While the Quack Attack may not get to go trick or treating, they have the oppertunity to secure a happy halloween with a win tonight. However, USC has been looking for revenge on Oregon, and this game was circled on their calendar. The game will obviously decide the Pac-10, and if USC loses, no Rose Bowl for them for the first time since like 04, when they won the championship in the Orange Bowl. Last time USC faced Oregon, it was close in the first quarter, and midway through the second, but USC pulled away for a 44-10 win. Masoli is looking for payback this time. The candy I will give for this game is a Twix, because both teams stick in the game, like Twix, which is sticky, and my pediction is 9 USC 31, 7 Oregon 39. 15 Oklahoma State vs. 3 Texas Last time the 2 met in Stllwater, Texas escaped with a 38-35 win. Mavs. vs. Lakers and Pre-Halloween NBA Recap

What time is it? For kids, Halloween. For NBA players? Time to get serious. Is that what the Lakers did? No. Dirk Nowitzki scored a double double with a 21 and 10 game, Jason Kidd dished 11 assists, Erick Dampier grabbed 10 boards and the Mavs took down the Lakers 94-80. It was the first time that the Mavs beat the Lakers at the Staples Center since March 11, 2007, when the Lakers where still a 5 or 6 seed team. "It feels like we haven't won down here forever", Nowitzki says. But, for the Mavs, that drama is over. Cavs 104, Timberwolves 87 LeBron was determined to get a win, and he scored 24 points and grabbed 9 boards as the Cavaliers beat the Timberwolves 104-87 for their first win of the season. Bobcats 102, Knicks 100 2OT Tied at 100, D. Augistin hit 2 late free throws to power the Bobcats to a 102-100 win over the Knicks. Augistin scored 15, but Raymond Felton scored 22 and had some big plays in the Charlotte win. Celtics 118, Bulls 90 The big

Thursday Night NBA

San Antonio at Chicago The Bulls were the only team that had not played a game. Well, when the game came they were determined to win. They did. Luol Deng led the Bulls with 17 points, Joakim Noah racked up 10 rebounds, Derrick Rose scored 7 dimes as Chicago held off Tim Duncan and the Spurs, 92-85. Rose, one of 6 Bulls who scored double digits (Kirk Hinrich, Tyrus Thomas, Rose, Deng, Noah and John Salmons) got pumped up for the game by turning up loud music. Maybe thaat was the key to his 13 points and 7 assist game. I wonder how the Bulls will fare on ESPN vs. the Celtics. Denver vs. Portland A 114-105 win vs. the Jazz didn't satisfy the Nuggets and Melo. Maybe this will. Carmelo Anthony scored 19 of his 41 points in the fourth quarter to power a late Denver rally in a 97-94 win at Portland. The Nuggets cut the Blazers lead from 8 to no lead. Anthony also took reasonable shots and had great ball handling. And, Chauncey Billups scored 22 and dished 6 assists

Phillies vs. Yankees Games 1 and 2

Cliff Lee has done amazing since he was traded to the Phillies. Well, he kept that going in World Series Game 1. Lee threw 7 early strikeouts, and all the Yankees could manage was a late score off of the Phillies bullpen. Chase Utley hit 2 longballs and Philadelphia won 6-1. Hideki Matsui and Mark Teixeira hit solo shots, and Jorge Posado knocked in an RBI single as the Yankees beat the Phillies 3-1 to even up the World Series. Matt Stairs knocked in Raul Ibanez in the second to put Philly ahead 1-0, and it looked like a long night for A.J Burnett. But, Burnett didn't allow any more runs, and the Yankees held on. Game 3 is in Philadelphia on Halloween. It is at 7:57 PM ET, 4:57 PT.

World Series

27th championship. Back to back. This is what is at stake in the 2009 World Series. C.C Sabathia, Derek Jeter, Alex Rodriguez, and Mark Texiara lead the Yankees against Jimmy Rollins, Ryan Howard, Chase Utley and Cole Hamels and the Phillies. I think the hitting is pretty much even, and it should be a high scoring series. But, with that in mind, pitching and fielding will decide the series. With C.C Sabathia, A.J Burnett, and Andy Pettitte pitching, that shouldn't be a problem. If the Yankees mop up fielding issues and don't allow many hits they will be in great shape to take home 27. For the Phillies, with Brett Myers, Cliff Lee and Cole Hamels, their pitching may be in better shape. But, I think the Yankees hitting will pick apart the Phillies D, and this will be a challenge for the Phillies. My pick is the Yankees in 6 because I think they have slightly better hitting and I think they will mop up fielding issues, but I think the Phils will be a challenge. The

Will LA take a NFL Team?

The Los Angeles Raiders? The Los Angeles Rams? The Los Angeles Chargers? Well, the city has tried those teams. Is it time for a new one? Let's look over the options. Minnesota Vikings-A good fan base, but LA is a much bigger city and the Vikings get out of their lease in 2011, enough for the big city. But rivalries and stuff like that keep this team in Minnesota. And since Minnesota is doing so well, the city won't give them up. I think the odds are 11-89 in favor of no. St.Louis Rams-LA has tried them, but this is still a good option. Since the Rams are 0-6, LA might want a better team. However, a great fan base needs a better stadium. This looks 50-50. Buffalo Bills-Considering this team is named after a real person, they will probably stay, but the Bills could ditch the cold and come out here. It is better and no different than Toronto. I think the odds are 14-86 in favor of staying in NY. San Diego Chargers-It is easier because they are in the west and LA has ha

NFL Midseason Recap and Prediction AFC East and North

So far, you have seen many surprises as 6-0 Denver and New Orleans, the Vikings not using Adrian Peterson as a huge factor, and the Redskins and Titans struggling. Let's get you updated on all that information. AFC East-New England Patriots: The Patriots have had surprise losses in the Meadowlands [Jets] and in the Mile High City, but right now they are putting that behind them and trying to take back the AFC East title. The Pats have a small issue at RB, but Tom Brady and Randy Moss key this amazing passing attack. Miami Dolphins: The Dolphins haven't yet met fans expectations, but they need to get in shape for their showdown with the 6-0 Saints. Miami trails the Patriots by 1 and a half games, and to catch them they might need another running back and Chad Henne to stop playing like a rookie. New York Jets: New York is at their midseason struggle point, but coming off 3 straight losses, including a OT loss vs. Buffalo is unacceptable. Mark Sanchez needs to practice h

Denver Broncos vs. San Diego Chargers Recap

Even after a 5-0 start, Denver still had doubts about beating the Chargers, winning the AFC West. It looks like those guys are gone. Eddie Royal had a 93 yard kickoff return for a touchdown and a 71 yard punt return to the house, and Darren Sproles returned a punt 77 yards to the house. This marks the first game in NFL history where a player from both team scored on a punt, and a player had a kickoff return for a score. And all that was in the first half. Elvis Dumervil forced a Phillp Rivers fumble, an amazing grab by Tony Scheffler for a TD and a 52 yard pass completion that keyed the drive where Denver put the game away on Brandon Stokley's TD catch. Kyle Orton threw 2 touchdowns, making his total 9. He only threw 1 pick during the entire season, and Denver did not turn the ball over during the game. Denver's defense started stuffing the San Diego passing attack and the short pass with space, which is what gave San Diego 10 points. Denver outscored San Diego 17-

NLCS Recap

The Phillies Philled one spot in for the World Series. Now they just need to do the rest. Jayson Werth was responsible for 5 of the Phillies 10 runs as the defending champs knocked off the Dodgers 10-4 with 4 home runs. The Dodgers took a 1-0 lead, but after 2 they trailed 4-2. Orlando Hudson hit a homer, but LA still trailed 6-3. Philly took a 9-3 lead and LA couldn't do anything about it, and the team with arguably the best batting in the league [if they play the Yankees it would be like 9-7 every game]. The Yankees lead the Angels 3-1 and the winner plays the Phillies.

Cincinnati vs. South Florida Recap

Zach Collaros was hanging out in the locker room at halftime, doing his thing when he heard the news. Tony Pike was hurt and Collaros was called into the game. Pike had thrown for 140 yards and 2 touchdowns, both to Aaron Bines. The Bearcats lived on D first the first possession or 2 in the second half. The Bearcats did a great job on blitz, sending 1-4 guys after the QB. Late in the third, Zach Collaros took a snap on 3rd and 10. He couldn't have thrown the ball because all the receivers were covered. So he took off with the ball, and he got some blocks to power him past the first down marker. He broke a tackle or 2, got some more blocks and it was wide open field for him with 45 yards to go. He needed to strech the ball over the goal line for the score. USF came right back, but a 43 yard pass completion and some more yardage came before Collaros's 2nd TD run. He threw for 72 yards and ran for 132 yards in the 34-17 win. Pike could miss Cincinnati's next

NLCS Game One Recap

If you look at this game, you will see it came down to inning 5 completely, where 8 of the 9 runs were scored. That inning went to the Phillies. Carlos Ruiz and Raul Ibanez each hit 3 run homers. Ryan Howard knocked in a 2 run double and Philadelphia held off the Dodgers in LA 8-6 last night. Manny Ramirez hit a 2 run shot to center in the fifth to cut the Phillies to 5-4. In the 8th, Raul Ibanez stretched the Phillies lead to 4. Russell Martin and Rafael Furcal each knocked runs in for the Dodgers, but the Phillies and held in the 9th for a 8-6 win. Game 2 is in LA at 4:07 PM ET.

UFL Football Florida vs. Las Vegas

In the second game in the inagural UFL, the tenacious defense of the Florida Tuskers took on the awesome offense of the Las Vegas Locos. The game wasn't lopsided, but it went one way. Dexter Jackson [former Super Bowl MVP] and the Florida Tuskers D held LAs Vegas to 0 points in the first 3 quarters, and although Vegas scored 15 in the final quarter, it wasn't enough as Florida held on the the Gambling City 29-15. Brooks Bollinger and Michael Pittman marched Florida down the field, and Bollinger hit Frank Murphy to put Florida up 7-0. 2 red zone drives and another in field goal range Florida didn't capatilize on, but a 16-0 halftime lead made them happy. Bollinger hit Chad Gessner on a 12 yard score, Las Vegas got a safety, and Bollinger and the rushing attack marched Florida downfield. The Tuskers rushing combined for 113 yards on 32 carries. Holding a 29-2 lead, Florida just wanted to protect their lead, and during that time, former Bills QB J.P Losman threw 2 TD

Boise State vs. Tulsa recap

We all know that to make the BCS Title, Boise needs to be undefeated. Even this could knock them out of the title. Kellen Moore threw 3 touchdown passes, Boise added a 2 point conversion and 2 field goals and the Broncos escaped Tulsa with a 28-21 win. A.J Whitmore hit Damaris Johnson for a 53 yard score to put Tulsa up 7-0, but the Broncos marched right down the field and took a 1 point lead. G.J Kinne led Tulsa inside the red zone, and he hit Trae Johnson for a 16 yard TD pass to put Tulsa up 14-8 after 1. Kellen Moore threw a great ball to Austin Pettis for a 17 yard score, and a FG had Boise up 18-14 at the half. Moore hit Tommy Gallarda for a score and Kyle Brotzman made a 27 yard chip shot to put the Broncos up 28-14. In the fourth, G.J Kinne threw a touchdown to Slick Shelly covering 55 yards, and with a minute and a half to go, Tulsa got the ball. But Boise's D held and the Broncos saved any BCS Title chances with a 28-21 road win.

NLCS Preview

The Dodgers look to get revenge on the Phillies for taking a World Series berth away from them last year, and this is the perfect way to do it with a World Series berth on the line. J.A Happ, Cole Hamels, Cliff Lee, and Joe Blanton lead the Phillies pitching rotation, and Jimmy Rollins, Ryan Howard, and Chase Utley lead Philadelphia, the team that has the talent to do it all. The Dodgers rotation has a lot of average players, but Jonathan Broxton and Chad Billingsley lead the pitching. James Loney, Casey Blake and Rafael Furcal lead the Dodgers infield, and Manny Ramirez, Andre Either and Matt Kemp lead the outfield. This looks like a good matchup, but the Phillies scored 20 runs in 4 games, an average of 5 runs per game in their series vs. the Rockies. I think the Phillies take it in 7 because their hitting is better.

ALCS Preview

The Yankees are the most well known team in baseball. The Angels are making their case. This should be a fine matchup. Torri Hunter and Vladimir Guerrero take on Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez lead their teams in a great hitting matchup. But, at the end this series should go down to pitching. C.C Sabathia and A.J Burnett should lead the Yankees, while Jeff Weaver and John Lackey try to power the Angels by the team with the best record in the MLB. I think the Yankees are the better team, but they have struggled against the Angels. I think they will be tied at 2, and then the Yanks will power by LA with Mark Texiara leading the pack to the World Series. My pick is Yankees in 6.

Are the Broncos for real?

When a football fan looks at the Denver Broncos in 2009, they say, "Well, their 4-0, but the teams they played aren't exactly what you call good". Not anymore. Kyle Orton led the Broncos on a 98 yard scoring drive to even the game against the Patriots at 17, and another drive that ended with a Matt Prater field goal handed Denver their 5th win and finally made people thinking it's just another one of those bad seasons in Denver. With games coming up against San Diego, Baltimore, Pittsburgh, and Washington, Denver can't get ahead of themselves. But right now Josh McDainels is probably partying with the thought of beating his old coach. With Knowshon Moreno and Correll Buckhalter running the ball, Kyle Orton at QB and Brandon Marshall and Stokley at receiver, the Broncos are in pretty good shape. And, even though the Broncos were supposed to be an offensive team, they have allowed an average of 8.6 points per game against opponents, best in the league. The

ALDS Daily Recap

Red Sox-Angels Red Sox fans: they always expect a championship. And they should, because their team has the talent to win one. Not this year. Bobby Abreu cut the Red Sox lead to 1 run and Vlaimir Guerrero hit a 2 run single to put the Angels ahead, 7-6. The Angels D held as LA advanced to the ALDS. The Angels last won the World Series in 2002. The Red Sox have won 7 World Series titles and the missed out on 8. Yankees-Twins The Yankees free agent signings made them look like a championship team. That's sure what it looked like here. Jorge Posada put the Yankees ahead with a 2 run shot, and the Yankees put the Twins away with a 4-1 win Sunday night. The Yankees next step to 27 is the ALDS vs. the Angels. The Yankees have 26 World Series and host LA in Game 1. Dates and times are unknown at this point.

Oregon vs. UCLA recap

When you think of Oregon football you think of offense. You think of Jerimiah Masoli and, well now LeMichael James. But, that was not the case in the Rose Bowl. Both teams had no offense going on in the first half, with UCLA holding a slim 3-0 lead over the 9th ranked Ducks. But, on the opening kickoff of the second half, Kenjon Barner returned the kick 100 yards for the touchdown to put UO up 7-3. On first down, Kevin Prince's pass was intercepted by Talmadge Jackson III for a 32 yard score. Jackson ran in front of the pass and ran it to the house. It was 2 touchdowns in 26 seconds for Oregon without any offensive play. UCLA, however was driving at midfield when Kevin Prince took off. But as he was hit, the ball came loose and Oregon recovered. James and Nate Costa drove the Ducks to the Bruins 20, where Costa hit Jeff Maehl who broke a tackle and ran into the end zone. The Bruins Akeem Ayers intercepted the ball at the goal line for a touchdown, but it was too late as

Connecticut vs. Pittsburgh recap

Uconn is up 21-6. Viewers have changed channels. Not Pitt fans. The Panthers made it a 21-13 game, the a 27 yard TD strike to Dorin Dickerson and a 2 point conversion tied the game up at 21. And, a big drive and some big rushing by Dion Lewis put Pitt at their own 1. They couldn't score a TD, but a GW field goal as time expired gave Pitt their 2nd Big East win and improved their record to 5-1. Their only loss was at NC State. Pitt is at Rutgers on Friday night, and Uconn is back at home as they take on Louisville on Saturday morning of next week.

D-1 FCS Week 6 Game of the week

UC Davis vs. South Dakota Now, when you think of UC Davis, you think of academics. If you went to school there, you might follow football. But you may have never seen such an exciting finish. A big decision by South Dakota gave the Coyotes a 23-17 lead, but the PAT was blocked. And, on 4th and 11 Davis QB Greg Denham hit WR Chris Carter for a 24 yard connection On 2nd an goal, Joe Trombetta ran the ball in for a TD, and Sean Kelly's extra point gave Davis a 24-23 OT victory. The key was 2 easy field goals missed and a 1st and goal at the 1 for USD where no points were scored. Davis plays Winston-Salem next, and South Dakota is at Montana State. UC Davis is 2-3 with losses to Montana 17-10, Fresno State 51-0 and Boise State 34-16. South Dakota is 3-3.

Twins vs. Yankees Game 2

Orlando Cabrera helped send the Twins to the playoffs with a dramatic homer against Detroit for the AL Central Title. It was different tonight in the Bronx. Alex Rodriguez hit a 2 run shot to tie the game up at 3, and in the bottom of the 10th, the Twins gained momentum by stopping Brett Gardener from getting home. But in the 11th, the sound of the ball as it rocketed into the stands made Yankees fans cheer very loudly as the Yankees moved only one game away from going to the ALCS. The Twins had a chance to win the game with 2 outs and the bases loaded in the top of the 11th, but Nick Harris flew out to center. Game three is in Minnesota Sunday night at 7:00 PM ET. The Yankees lead the series 2-0 needed only 1 more win to move on to the ALCS against the Red Sox or Angels.

Cal vs. USC Preview

You will look at this match-up and see 7 USC playing 24 Cal. Most people would pick USC to win this game, and the fact that because the loser is basically out of the BCS makes this a must-win situation for both teams. The Trojans have won every game against the Bears since 2003, and they are hungry for their 6th straight win vs. Cal. But the Bears, with Jahvid Best are also really looking for a win. They haven't made the Rose Bowl since 1958, and they streak hould extend to 52 straight years with no Rose Bowl with a loss tonight. The big question in this game is with Cal team shows up. The one that lost by 39 at Oregon, or the one that outscored their first three opponents [Maryland, Eastern Washington, MMinnesota] by a total of 146-41? I think Cal will be fired up to stay in the BCS race and win their 10th straight home game. Since USC is not the same as they were, I like the Bears 31-28, and I like Best to run for 123 yards and 2 touchdowns. T.V. Network: ABC Time: 8:

USC vs. Ohio State Preview

The best non-conference game this year. The USC Trojans take on the Ohio State Buckeyes at Ohio Stadium in Columbus. Let's tale a look at this game. 3 Keys to the game for Ohio State 1: Defense Why: The Trojans and freshman QB Matt Barkley will be fired up out there in Columbus. A great USC running attack needs to be stopped for OSU to win. 2: Terrelle Pryor Why: Against Navy, Pryor was nothing. He needs to show up for Ohio State to win. 3: An effective running game Why: The Trojans come in with a great D, and Ohio State needs to stop that and Dan Herron needs a big game for OSU. 3 keys to the game for USC 1: Defense Why: Pryor, Herron and the Bucks are going to be fired up, and USC needs to stop OSU to pull out a victory. 2: Running Game Why: Stafon Johnson needs to be ready to be tough, C.J Gable in between and Joe McKnight for speed. The 3 back attack needs to be ready for drama. 3: Coaching Why: Since Ohio State will do extra practice, Pete Carroll needs extra strategy

BBD's Quest To Stardom

My number one sleeper is: 3 clues 1: This team has not made a bowl since 1994 2: This team has a great sophomore quarterback 3: This team plays in a conference with 4 elite contenders Baylor! The Bears are led by sophomore quarterback Robert Griffin, who is a great runner and a good passer. The Bears opened the season with a 24-21 win over Wake Forest, and Kendall Wright had a 37 yard cutback score. The Bears face really easy teams, and have Oklahoma State, Texas, and Texas Tech at home.
