Pac-10 Thursday basketball

Cal vs. Arizona State Ever heard of the Big Three? Ray Allen, Paul Pierce, and Kevin Garnett? How about this Big Three? Jerome Randle, Jamal Boykin, and Patrick Christopher. Those 3 combined for 71 of Cal's 78 points in the Bears 78-70 victory over Arizona State. ASU took an early 14-8 lead, but Cal closed the first half with a bang, taking a 40-33 halftime lead. The Cal defense and Boykin gave Cal a 47-33 lead and didn't allow an ASU bucket until there was 17:11 in the half. Then Jerome Randle hit a 3 and Cal was up 50-35, but with the score at 54-38 Randle was injured and ASU went on an 8-0 run. They then made it 67-66, but Jorge Guitteriz made a three and Patrick Christopher made a 15 footer, and Cal took a 78-68 lead on free throws and an ASU steal and dunk wasn't enough as the Bears held on to win 78-70. Orange Bowl recap Ricky Stanzi found his game, Adrian Clayborn had a monster performance and Iowa held off Georgia Tech 24-14 in the 76th annual Orange Bowl. In the first quarter Stanzi found Marvin McNutt for a score, and he threw another TD pass up high, where Colin Sandeman grabbed it for a 21 yard score. But Tech wasn't done yet. Jerrad Terrent undercut a slant pass by Stanzi and he returned the pass 40 yards to the house, making it 14-7. That would remain the score up until the half. On Tech's opening possession of the second half, they missed a FG and Iowa turned that into a FG. But Tech's offesne got rolling again, and Anthony Allen made it 17-14 with a one yard run. But Iowa drove downfield again, but Tech stopped them in the red zone. Iowa faked a field goal and they missed it. Jonathan Dwyer barely escaped a safety, and Tech had to punt it. New Years Bowl games

Outback: Northwestern vs. Auburn It took a pick-6, 5 interceptions, 3 missed field goals and an injured kicker, but Auburn finally beat Northwestern. Walter McFadden grabbed a tipped ball and returned it 100 yards for a score, making it 14-0 Tigers. Mike Kafka threw a 39 yard TD pass to Andrew Brewer, making it 14-7. Chris Todd found Quadarius Carr for a TD, but Brewer caught another TD to make it 21-14. Then, Mike Kafka threw a pass to Drake Dinsmore, who broke many tackles and scored a 66 yard TD. But an interception set up another Tiger touchdown, and soon it was 35-21. But Mike Kafka scored on a QB sneak, making it 35-27. Ben Tate soon fumbled and Northwestern had new life. On fourth and 3, NW was sacked, but a facemask was called and NW had a first down. Kafka found Sidney Spencer to make it 35-33 and Andrew Brewer found Brendan Mitchell for the 2 point conversion. New Year's Eve Bowl games

Armed Forces: Houston vs. Air Force The triple option rushing attack was too much for Houston as Air Force gained 402 yards on the ground in a 47-20 victory over Houston. Jared Tew ran for 173 yards and 2 scores, including a 71 yarder. Asher Clark also ran for 129 yards and 36 and 22 yard TD runs. Tyron Carrier started the second half off with a cutback, 79 yard kickoff return for a score. Jonathan Warzeka of Air Force answered by breaking tackles in his 100 yard kickoff return for a score. 2 kickoff returns for scores in 31 seconds. Sun: Oklahoma vs. Stanford Landry Jones threw for 418 yards and 3 TD's, all to Ryan Broyles as Oklahoma defeated Stanford 31-27 in the 76th Brut Sun Bowl. Broyles kicked his day off with a 30 yard TD reception on 3rd down in double coverage, and he also had TD catches of 13 and 6 yards. DeMarco Murray flipped into the end zone to put Oklahoma up 31-27 late in the third, but Stanford recovered a punt where Broyles was nailed when ca
