USC vs. Ohio State Preview

The best non-conference game this year. The USC Trojans take on the Ohio State Buckeyes at Ohio Stadium in Columbus. Let's tale a look at this game. 3 Keys to the game for Ohio State 1: Defense Why: The Trojans and freshman QB Matt Barkley will be fired up out there in Columbus. A great USC running attack needs to be stopped for OSU to win. 2: Terrelle Pryor Why: Against Navy, Pryor was nothing. He needs to show up for Ohio State to win. 3: An effective running game Why: The Trojans come in with a great D, and Ohio State needs to stop that and Dan Herron needs a big game for OSU. 3 keys to the game for USC 1: Defense Why: Pryor, Herron and the Bucks are going to be fired up, and USC needs to stop OSU to pull out a victory. 2: Running Game Why: Stafon Johnson needs to be ready to be tough, C.J Gable in between and Joe McKnight for speed. The 3 back attack needs to be ready for drama. 3: Coaching Why: Since Ohio State will do extra practice, Pete Carroll needs extra strategy

BBD's Quest To Stardom

My number one sleeper is: 3 clues 1: This team has not made a bowl since 1994 2: This team has a great sophomore quarterback 3: This team plays in a conference with 4 elite contenders Baylor! The Bears are led by sophomore quarterback Robert Griffin, who is a great runner and a good passer. The Bears opened the season with a 24-21 win over Wake Forest, and Kendall Wright had a 37 yard cutback score. The Bears face really easy teams, and have Oklahoma State, Texas, and Texas Tech at home.

Baily D's Super Bowl Pick

The Super Bowl. The biggest sports event of the year. The Steelers, the Patriots, Cowboys, 49ers, Giants and so many teams are in Super Bowl history. Here is my playoff pick AFC 3 Jacksonville 21 3 Jacksonville 28 3 Jacksonville 24 6 Baltimore 13 2 San Diego 24 4 New England 17 1 Pittsburgh 21 1 Pittsburgh 31 AFC Champ: Steelers 5 Indianapolis 20 5 Indianapolis 14 NFC 3 Minnesota 24 3 Minnesota 17 2 Carolina 24 6 San Francisco 14 2 Carolina 35 4 Arizona 27 4 Arizona 10 1 Philadelphia 27 NFC Champ: Eagles 5 Washington 17 1 Philadelphia 31 Super Bowl 1 Pittsburgh 14 1 Philadelphia 17 MVP: LeSean McCoy, 21 carries, 131 yards, 1 touchdown

2009 NFL Sleepers

My number one NFL sleeper is: the Philadelphia Eagles Not because of Michael Vick. I think that Brian Westbrook will get injured and LeSean McCoy will take over with 13 games left, and he will have 5 100+ games and the Eagles will win the NFC East. Defense will be the main key. The Eagles will allow 12.3 points per game and beat their first 2 playoff opponents. And they will end up in the Super Bowl. See my Super Bowl pick on a separate blog.

BBD's Quest To Stardom Part 2

My sleepers tour continues. Clue 1: This team has a sophomore starting quarterback Clue 2: This team finished the regular season [2008] on a 4 game win streak Clue 3: This team had not made a bowl since 2005 before 2008 It's NC State! My number 2 sleeper is NC State because Russell Wilson now has much more experience and will most likely have a good year. They opened the year with a tough loss to South Carolina, but should rebound.

State Tournament's

Each state has a state champion? But how is it determined? With a state tournament. Let's find out the first state's champion. We will start this tour with: North Carolina When you hear North Carolina football, you think of North Carolina. But East Carolina and NC State are good as well. Tournament Time North Carolina vs. Wake Forest Wake is on a slump, and UNC will take this 31-17. They have more talent. NC State vs. East Carolina The Wolfpack take it close. NC State's Russell Wilson outduels Patrick Pinkney as NC State takes it 28-21. UNC vs. NC State Russell Wilson throws for 2 scores, the running game scores 2 and NC State takes the state title 31-21 over UNC. Next up: Alabama

Top Performances

This week's college football players have done well, but who stood out most? Big 12 Top Performers: Dez Bryant, Oklahoma State A huge game by Bryant, including a great 46 yard touchdown catch was able to power Oklahoma State past Georgia 24-10. Kendall Wright, Baylor A huge play by Wright where a run to the right turned into an amazing cutback and a touchdown in Baylor's 24-21 win over Wake. Wright averaged nearly 13 yards per carry. Blaine Gabbert, Missouri Gabbert tossed 3 huge touchdowns in Missouri's 37-9 win over Illinois.Gabbert threw for 319 yards and no picks as well. ACC C.J Spiller, Clemson In 113 years of Clemson football, no one had ever returned the opening kickoff for a score. Spiller changed that as he kicked off a 37-14 win over Middle Tennessee State. Jacoby Ford, Clemson A 61 yard punt return by Ford and an amazing catch and touchdown run helped power Clemson past Middle Tennessee State Saturday. Ford had 3 catches for 70 yards and a score. Jo

MWC In The BCS?

Does the Mountain West conference deserve a BCS Bid? The question runs through all college football fans' minds. Has TCU proven it? Probably not. Has BYU proven it? 2 days ago with a victory over Oklahoma. And, before Sam Bradford was injured, it was 10-7 Oklahoma. Bradford was injured, BYU's defense played well, and a GW drive by Max Hall and BYU won 14-13. Utah proved it by beating Alabama and going 13-0. The Utes finished 2nd in the AP poll. Colorado State also beat Colorado last night 23-17. The Mountain West has to schedule tougher games to get a BCS bid. TCU plays 2 ACC teams [Virginia and Clemson] that are both winnable for TCU. The MWC always has 2 ranked teams, and Utah plays Oregon, TCU plays Clemson and Virginia, BYU played Oklahoma, etc. The BCS should give the MWC a bid in the Allstate Sugar Bowl vs. the SEC winner. The MWC handled the SEC last year [Utah 31, Alabama 17]. The BCS should decide after 2009.

BBD's Week 2 Upsets

Upset Special: Hawaii vs. Washington State It's not like this game matters, but the Cougs could snag a non-conference win here. At home, Hawaii beat Central Arkansas 25-20, and Stanford beat Wazzou 39-13. Stanford is clearly better than Central Arkansas though. Look for a close game. Pick: Hawaii 17, Washington State 16 Upset Special: Houston vs. Oklahoma State This is Houston's year to win the C-USA. 9 Oklahoma State is a great team, and they beat Georgia 24-10. The Cowboys won at home last year 56-37, but a UH it could be a good game. Zac Robinson and Dez Bryant will be too much though. Pick: Oklahoma State 38, Houston 30 Upset: Fresno State vs. Wisconsin The Dawgs had a year to do it all last year, with a ranking just outside of the Top 25, but they failed to do it. A kickoff to a great year would start here as their first real game is against Wisconsin on the road. Wisconsin is talent! Pick: Fresno State 20, Wisconsin 14

BBD's Quest To Stardom Part 1

There is always a team with no bowl expectations, like Ole Miss last year. They beat Florida at the Swamp and they beat Texas Tech in the Cotton Bowl. My 3 sleepers for 2009 start with number 3. Clue 1 This team shut down Central Michigan in a 19-6 win last night. Clue 2 This team only made one bowl in the past 10 years [last year] Clue 3 This team has a rough schedule, with road games against USC, Iowa and California. It's Arizona! The Cats have Oregon and UCLA at home, but Oregon State, Iowa, Cal, and USC on the road are tough. Nic Grigsby is a good running back, and Matt Scott will try to learn Mike Stoops' system. Prediction: 9-3, 6-3 conference Sun Bowl vs. Notre Dame L 28-24

5 Best Games Of The Year

5 Ohio State @ Penn State The Big Ten Game of the year is back in Happy Valley, and Penn State won last year 13-6 to secure the Big 10. Ohio State is looking for revenge and a Rose Bowl bid, and this game is the Big 10 game of the year. 4 USC vs. California Many fans will not agree, but Jahvid Best, Kevin Riley, Marvin Jones and co are capable of beating USC. This game will decide the Pac-10, and if USC will be able to go back to the Rose Bowl with Notre Dame, Cal, and Oregon all on the road. 3 Alabama vs. Ole Miss The Tide and Rebels will be fighting to face Florida [or Georgia, etc] in the SEC Title, and this game will decide a BCS bid and possibly a National Title bid. The Rebels have Alabama and LSU at home, and are looking to make their first BCS Game in a very long time. 2 USC vs. Ohio State The Non-conference game of the year and the game to prove that Navy was nothing for Ohio State is here in Columbus. The Buckeyes want revenge, and this will decide a BCS spot if the wi

5 games to watch in Week 2

The 5 games to watch in Week 2 are: 5 Clemson vs. 15 Georgia Tech The Tigers have a chance to prove themselves and C.J. Spiller can grab NFL Scouts' attention. For Georgia Tech, it kicks off what is expected to be a great year for them. And, Jonathan Dwyer vs. Spiller sets up a great RB battle. 4 UCLA vs. Tennessee Lane Kiffin's first real game is here, at home vs. UCLA. The Vols crushed Western Kentucky in Kiffin's debut 63-7, but this is where football starts. The Bruins can also prove themselves to college football. 3 South Carolina vs. Georgia South Carolina is 1-0 with a 7-3 road win over NC State, and a road win here will prove themselves to CFB. The Dawgs try to recover from a 24-10 road loss to 9 Oklahoma State here. 2 21 Notre Dame vs. Michigan This rivalry is just amazing. The Irish beat Nevada 35-0, and Michigan beat Western Michigan 31-7. Rich Rodriguez tries to eliminate all of the allegations, and this is the time to do it. Jimmy Clausen also tries to

Cal vs. Maryland preview

The Cal Golden Bears are #8 in my polls. Maryland is nowhere. THis is a huge game for both teams. The key to the game and the key matchup is Da'Rel Scott vs. Jahvid Best. Best is a Heisman candidate, and I think Best will have 3 scores and 200+ yards. Cal's Kevin Riley should have a good game, and a vicious pass defense led by the team that tied for the third most picks in the nation. Syd' Quan Thompson, Marcus Ezeff, Darian Hagan and Mike Mohammed lead Cal's pass D. This is too much for the Terps. 45-17 Cal.

From Basketball to football

Greg Paulus. Duke Basketball fans have heard of him. College Basketball knows him. And College Football should. The Syracuse Orangemen named him starting QB and in the first half? A TD pass, no picks, and over 100 yards. Will his experience at Duke help? Will he be a high pick? Will Syracuse do well? Tune in to ESPN2 and watch the Minnesota-Syracuse game. Now!

Alabama vs. Virginia Tech Preview

The Bama QB is new. VT has Tyrod Taylor. This game should be a defensive battle, but it will be close. I have Tyrod Taylor running for a 23 yard score, the VT defense scoring off of a pick and having 2 field goals. The Hokies will have amazing D, and Alabama? The Tide will have a TD pass and Javier Arenas will show the nation that he is one of the best punt returners in the country. It will be close, but VT will sho CFB that they can handle the SEC. Hokies 20, Tide 17.

If Boise State Played In the Big 12

Boise State played well against Oregon, got a safety, and Kellen Moore played great. Boise State played like a Top 5 team. Let's name Boise State's Big 12 Schedule and Predictions Oregon W 19-8 Miami Ohio W 45-7 @Bowling Green W 45-6 @Southern Miss W 38-14 @Nebraska L 28-24 Texas Tech W 31-28 Kansas W 24-14 @Colorado W 27-24 Texas L 42-17 @Oklahoma L 31-10 Oklahoma State L 24-21 Baylor W 36-21 Record: 8-4 4-4 Conference Bowl Game: Alamo Bowl vs. Michigan State W 21-17 Boise State would probably finish 5th or 6th in the Big 12 North, 2nd in the North, 4th in the south.

Blount Suspended

Oregon, #16, lost last night 19-8 to Boise State. But the real headline was Oregon losing their chances of winning the Pac-10. Blount threw a punch at Byron Hout after he screamed in his face after Boise State's 19-8 win. Blount only had a 2 point conversion run. In my picks, either Oregon or Arizona will play Nebraska in the Holiday Bowl. Oregon will now have to count on their passing game, mainly with Ed Dickson and Jerimiah Masoli. A normal coach would have suspended him for 3-5 games. Chip Kelly should be fired! This basically means USC vs. California on October 3rd will decide the Pac-10.

Thursday Night Football Part 2

16 Oregon vs. 18 Boise State Jerimiah Masoli is considered by some a Heisman candidate, and he has many chances to prove it, starting tonight. LeGarrette Blount is a star running back and could slice right through Boise State's D, and TE Ed Dickson is one of the best tight ends in the nation. Facing Boise State and QB Kelley Moore on the blue turf will be a good battle, but Oregon will win because Masoli and Blount will combine for 4 touchdowns, and I like a pick-6 and a 38-31 Ducks win. Moore throw for 3 touchdowns and a pick returned for a score, but Oregon's Big Three [Dickson, Masoli, Blount] will beat Boise State. But look for a close game.It is on ESPN at 7:00 PM PT. Welcome to college football paradise.

Thursday Night Football Part 1

South Carolina vs. NC State Last year, South Carolina won 34-0 in Russell Wilson's debut. This year should be different. Wilson is more experienced, and NC State is looking to even up the series. Toney Baker will start at RB, and Jamelle Eugene will back him up. Look for a close first half with Wilson being part of NC State's 2 scores, and South Carolina leading 17-14. Then, NC State takes over with Wilson gaining revenge on South Carolina by throwing for 3 scores and NC State winning at home 35-20. This game is on ESPN at 4:00 PM PT.
