Pac-10 Thursday basketball

Cal vs. Arizona State
Ever heard of the Big Three? Ray Allen, Paul Pierce, and Kevin Garnett? How about this Big Three? Jerome Randle, Jamal Boykin, and Patrick Christopher. Those 3 combined for 71 of Cal's 78 points in the Bears 78-70 victory over Arizona State. ASU took an early 14-8 lead, but Cal closed the first half with a bang, taking a 40-33 halftime lead. The Cal defense and Boykin gave Cal a 47-33 lead and didn't allow an ASU bucket until there was 17:11 in the half. Then Jerome Randle hit a 3 and Cal was up 50-35, but with the score at 54-38 Randle was injured and ASU went on an 8-0 run. They then made it 67-66, but Jorge Guitteriz made a three and Patrick Christopher made a 15 footer, and Cal took a 78-68 lead on free throws and an ASU steal and dunk wasn't enough as the Bears held on to win 78-70. Boykin scored a career high 25. Cal plays Arizona at 12:30 PT on sunday and Arizona State plays Stanford.

UCLA vs. Oregon
On a five game losing streak the Oregon Ducks rolled into McArthur Court hungry for a win. It looked like it, as Oregon took an 8-5 lead. But UCLA changed the momentum and went up 29-16, but Tajuan Porter sparked a 12-0 run with 2 threes and UCLA only led 31-28 at halftime. Porter made 4 threes on the day. Oregon went up 35-34 on a Porter 3, and soon they were up 47-40. But UCLA chipped away at that lead and Michael Roll tied the game with a three at 55. In OT, Matthew Humphrey put Oregon up 61-57 with 2 threes, and the Ducks went 6/6 from the foul line in OT and Oregon won, 71-66. UCLA plays Oregon State Saturday at 4:30 PT and Oregon takes on USC. Humphrey and Porter each scored 15 points.
