New Years Bowl games

Outback: Northwestern vs. Auburn
It took a pick-6, 5 interceptions, 3 missed field goals and an injured kicker, but Auburn finally beat Northwestern.

However, Auburn fumbled the kickoff and Northwestern was set up for a 44 yard field goal. Pat Demos missed it. It was going into OT.

Auburn got a field goal. Northwestern was set up for a FG, but they missed it. Hold everything. The ref called roughing the kicker. NW had more life. But they were stopped and their backup kicker was on for a 22 yard kick. But the Wildcats decided to fake it, and Nico Thorpe stopped Zeke Markshausen at the 2 yard line. What a way to start the decade!

Capital One: Penn State vs. LSU
Although the Outback Bowl may have been more exciting, this game was also a classic. The defense of Penn State was able to get it done and win it 19-17 over LSU.

Darryl Clark kicked off this defensive battle with a 37 yard TD pass to Derek Moye. Both teams exchanged field goals and then the PSU defense started to show up.

The Lions intercepted a pass that bounced off an LSU receiver, setting up a field goal that made it 13-3 at the half. Then Stevan Ridley fumbled at the LSU 23 and Penn State cashed in a field goal. 16-3 Lions.

But now it was LSU's turn to shine. Jordan Jefferson marched LSU downfield, and with 13 seconds left in the quarter Jordan Jefferson found Brandon LaFell for a score, making it 16-10.

Ridley scored to put the Tigers on top, but then Penn State started a drive. They converted on 3rd and 3, and to chew more time off the clock Evan Royster converted on 3rd and 4. Then, PSU made a field goal with 57 seconds left.

LSU drove to the Penn State 45, but a personal foul penalty took LSU out of FG territory and Penn State held on, 19-17.

Gator: West Virginia vs. Florida State
Bobby Bowden's final game was a very memorable one, for his Florida State Seminoles beat West Virginia 33-21. But they needed some help to get it.

WVU took an early 14-3 lead with the fantastic running of Noel Devine, but FSU fought back. Jermaine Thomas scored from 12 yards out and a FG made it 14-13 Mountaineers at the half. FSU then made it 16-14 with another field goal.

Jermaine Thomas found a hole to the left and scored with it, making it 23-14. Ryan Clarke made it 23-21, but E.J Manuel made it a 2 score game and the Seminoles held on, 33-21.

Rose: Ohio State vs. Oregon
This time, it wasn't USC in the Rose Bowl, and it was the Big Ten winning. That was on the back of the Ohio State Buckeyes.

Terrelle Pryor and Ohio State started off strong, with Pryor hitting Saine for a 13 yard score. The Buckeyes soon made it 10-0 but the Ducks got a FG and LeGarrette Blount used every pound of his to power into the end zone to tie it up at 10.

Down 13-10, Oregon was going for the lead or the tie at halftime. They got neither. Oregon was intercepted and the Buckeyes cashed that pick in for 3 and it was 16-10 in favor of Ohio State at the half.

The Oregon running game led the Ducks downfield, and Jerimiah Masoli scored on a QB sneak to make it 17-16 Ducks. After a Buckeye field goal, Oregon drove downfield but LeGarrette Blount fumbled. OSU got a key third down catch, and Devier Posey caught the game sealing TD. The final was 26-17.

Sugar: Florida vs. Cincinnati
31/35. 482 yards. 3 tocuhdowns. 51 rushing yards. 1 rushing touchdown. A 51-24 Sugar Bowl win over Cincinnati. What a way to end your college career. Guess who's it was? Tim Tebow's.

Tebow found Aaron Hernandez for a 7 yard score to kick things off, and then a field goal made it 9-0. Tebow hit Deonte Thompson for a 7 yard score and Emmanuel Moody took it in from 6 to make it 23-0. On the first play from scrimmage on the next drive, Tebow found Riley Cooper for an 80 yard score to make it 30-3.

Moody scored from 2 and Tebow from 4, and Chris Rainey put the top on the jar by making it 51-17. Tebow will be in the NFL, but he gave college football a memorable finale.
