NFL Season Kicks off

Dallas at Washington
A Hail Mary call. A holding call. A field goal attempt late. A key run. All of those could be words to describe the Redskins thrilling win over the Cowboys.

Alex Barron was called for holding on the last play of the game and the Redskins beat the Cowboys 13-7. Many plays happened that defined the game.

Late in the first half, with Washington leading 3-0, Dallas had the ball at their own 36 with about 5 seconds left. Tony Romo threw a short pass to Tashard Choice, and he got surrounded by 3 Redskins. Lorenzo Alexander knocked the ball out, and DeAngelo Hall scooped it up for a touchdown.

This was Donovan McNabb's debut as a Redskin, however, it wasn't his best game. In the third quarter, with 4th and 4 at about the 17, Graham Gano made a field goal. But an offsides gave the Redskins a first down, and they chose to accept it.

However, they would regret. McNabb was intercepted, the Cowboys had momentum and Tony Romo found Miles Austin for an easy 6. Soon it was 10-7.

Late in the fourth, Washington was driving with the ball. With second and 9 at the Dallas 39, Larry Johnson ran around left end for a huge 7 yards. Those 7 yards were key, as Mike Shanahan decided to go for a field goal.

Graham Gano made the 49 yard kick perfectly down the middle, and the Redskins took the lead. The Cowboys had the ball at their own 19 with 1:45 to go.

But that didn't matter to Tony Romo. He was connecting on short passes, and because of that the Cowboys had a first and 10 at the Washington 43. Tony Romo threw 2 terrible passes, both dropped interceptions, and suddenly it was fourth and 10.

Romo found Miles Austin down the middle for an easy 31 yard pickup because Carlos Rogers blew the coverage. And then, it came down to one play.

Romo threw to a wide open Roy Williams, who caught the touchdown pass. The Cowboys were celebrating. But; Alex Barron had obviously grabbed Brian Orakpo's shirt, and a holding was called. Washington had survived.

Key play: DeAngelo Hall holding up Tashard Choice, Lorenzo Alexander knocked the ball out and Hall picked it up for a quick six.

Controversial call
Calvin Johnson caught the go-ahead "touchdown" with :30 left. The Lions had the lead. But wait; the pass was called incomplete. Why?

Johnson caught a pass for six points, but he let go of the ball before he got up. The pass was called incomplete, the Lions couldn't convert on their next plays and the Chicago Bears won.

Jahvid Best ran for 2 touchdowns, but he only ran for 20 yards on 14 carries in his NFL debut. Matt Forte turned a screen pass into an 89 yard touchdown, and he caught the go-ahead (and game-winning) touchdown.

But the call will remain the main conversation.
