NFL Football Recap

Houston at Washington
A blocked field goal. A missed Hail Mary. An amazing 4th down grab. Gary Kubiak icing the kicker. And Neil Rackers' 35 yard game-winning field goal. All of those could define Houston's shocking comeback win over Washington.

Houston rallied from a 27-10 third quarter deficit to send the game into overtime, where Neil Rackers nailed a 35 yard kick, his third field goal of the day.

Graham Gano made 2 field goals to get Washington started, but Matt Schaub threw a touchdown pass to Jacoby Jones. However, Donovan McNabb led 2 Redskins TD drives, and Clinton Portis punched the ball in from the 1 twice. Washington led 20-7 at halftime.

Neil Rackers opened the third off with a 47 yard field goal, but then Donovan NcNabb found Chris Cooley, who had lots of space. Cooley ran into the end zone, and with 18 minutes of football left, Washington led 27-10.

But Houston was well on their way to cutting that deficit open. Arian Foster got a screen pass on 3rd and 15 and raced 50 yards down a hole, and Matt Schaub found Kevin Walter on the last play of the quarter. Houston only trailed by 10 entering the drama quarter.

Houston got the ball back, and a 35 yard pass to Kevin Walter set up a 43 yard field goal by Neil Rackers, a kick that he made. But Washington started to drive downfield.

Donovan McNabb completed 2 passes for 29 yards, and Clinton Portis rushed for 23 yards on the drive, setting up Graham Gano's 29 yard field goal. Gano is a great kicker, but the kick was low, and it was blocked. It was still a one score game.

The Redskins defense finally held Matt Schaub and Houston to nothing. Schaub was sacked, then completed a five yard pass, then threw an incomplete pass. Washington had another chance to put the game away.

On 3rd and 13 at the Washington 46, Washington decided to go deep. Joey Galloway had a lot of space, and Donovan McNabb saw that. He heaved one up to Galloway, who touched it, but couldn't pull it in. It was barely overthrown.

So Houston got another chance. Matt Scahub hit Andre Johnson for a 29 yard gain on a slant, then he found Jacoby Jones for 18 yards. But 3 incomplete passes had the game on the line on fourth down.

Schaub scrambled until he found a comfortable throwing area, and then he found it. He heaved the ball in the direction of Andre Johnson, and when it was time, Johnson plucked it out of the sky for a touchdown. Neither team could score, so the game went into overtime.

Houston started with the ball, and Matt Schaub found Kevin Walter 3 times for 32 yards. Arian Foster gained 17 yards on the drive, but Houston was forced to punt.

Donovan McNabb completed 3 passes for 30 yards, and the Redskins got to the 34. Graham Gano was lined up for the GW field goal. And....

He made it! But wait; Gary Kubiak had called timeout. He had to rekick it. And this time, Gano missed! Hosuton got the ball at their own 42 yard line, only 25 yards from field goal range.

On a third and 4, Schaub found Jacoby Jones, and on 1st and 10, Schaub hit Joel Dresser on a deep route. He gained 28 yards, and that set up the game-winning field goal. With 3:24 left, Houston took the game in a thrilling way.

Miami at Minnesota (brief)
Chad Henne threw a touchdown, Vontae Davis made a key interception, Koa Misi recovered a fumble in the end zone, and a goal line stop were key in Miami's upset win over Minnesota,

Minnesota got downfield early, but a failed 4th down conversion gave Miami the ball. Henne found Brandon Marshall for a 46 yard gain, and then Chad Henne found Brian Hartline in the corner of the end zone for 7 points.

No one could get anything going until Brett Favre led Minnesota 73 yards down to the 13 yard line, where they were faced with a 3rd and 12. Brett Favre threw the ball to Percy Harvin on a slant, and Harvin seemed to have the ball caught. But he bobbled it, and Vontae Davis took the ball. The score was 7-0 at halftime.

In the third, Miami pinned Minnesota back at their own 5 yard line, and on third down and 10 Cameron Wake forced a fumble. Koa Misi recovered for a touchdown, and Miami led 14-0.

But later in the period, Erin Henderson forced a fumbled, and he recovered at the 1. Adrian Peterson punched the ball in, and the score was 14-7. The score stayed the same until Ryan Longwell nailed a field goal.

Minnesota got to the one again, and it was fourth and goal. Karlos Dansby hit him, and he forced the tackle. Minnesota got to the Miami 27 again, but couldn't do anything. Miami improved to 2-0, and they dropped Minnesota and Brett Favre to 0-2.

Rookie of the Week: Jahvid Best; Best used his speed, and his tackle-breaking ability to score 3 touchdowns. However, all of this was in a losing effort. Philadelphia beat the Lions 35-32.
