College Football Recap

Oregon vs Tennessee
Kenjon Barner, Cliff Harris and LaMichael James all made great plays to lead a 48-13 win over Derek Dooley's Tennessee Volunteers. The Vols led 13-3 midway through the second quarter, but the Ducks tied it at the half, and outscored Tennessee 35-0 in the second half.

Oregon didn't get a single offensive play before Tennessee could pick up 2 field goals, and after a touchdown Tennessee led 13-3 and the Ducks were in trouble. But Oregon got a quick field goal, and then Darron Thomas threw a TD to David Paulsen. The game was tied 13-13 at the half.

In the third, LaMichael James turned it on. He broke tackles that would have pushed Oregon back 4 yards, outran 4 guys down the left sideline, broke another tackle and dove into the end zone for a 72 yard touchdown. Later in the quarter, QB Matt Simms threw up a floater that Cliff Harris took. Harris raced 76 yards for the score.

Thomas threw another touchdown pass, and Kenjon Barner used his speed for an easy touchdown on a punt return to give the Ducks a 41-13 lead. The Ducks would finish with a 35 point victory. The Ducks play Portland State next weekend.

Miami Florida at Ohio State
Ohio State took advantage of 4 interceptions, and the Buckeyes beat Miami Florida 36-24. Terelle Pryor threw for a touchdown and ran for one too, but the big story was Jacory Harris.

Harris, a Heisman candidate, had many bad throws, some of them that could have been touchdowns. Harris threw 4 interceptions, and the Buckeyes took advantage of that. Ohio State led 36-17 after 3 quarters.

The Hurricanes got special teams help. Travis Benjamin and Lamar Miller returned a kickoff or a punt at least 80 yards for a touchdown. Miami was only down 20-17 in the second, but turnovers helped the Buckeyes pick up 6 more points. A goal line interception turned into a touchdown, and Ohio State led by 19.

The Hurricanes couldn't come back, and the Buckeyes won by 12.

Penn State at Alabama
Trent Richardson ran for 144 yards and a touchdown as Alabama easily beat Penn State 24-3. Penn State showed their youth, and the Tide were able to break tackles.

Penn State couldn't move the ball, and all they picked up was a field goal. Trent Richardson was able to run over the Nittany Lions.

Alabama plays at Duke next week.

James Madison at Virginia Tech
The FCS has continued their streak, having a total of 4 wins this season. But James Madison recorded the biggest one, a 10 point comeback to beat #14 Virginia Tech.

Tyrod Taylor led Virginia Tech to a 10-0 lead, but then Drew Duzdik threw a 77 yard touchdown to Jamal Sullivan on a screen pass. But 2 Hokies field goals put Virginia Tech up 16-7.

However, Drew Duzdik scored a rushing touchdown, then in the fourth he ran around the left end for 6 points. The Dukes led 21-16. Then the Hokies drove downfield, but Tyrod Taylor couldn't
convert on fourth down. Then Darren Evans fumbled in the red zone, and Leavender Jones recovered.

With 13 seconds left on a JMU punt, Virginia Tech committed a roughing the kicker penalty. That gave JMU a first down, and the game.
