Boise State vs Virginia Tech

Here's a nice college football question. If your team was down by 4 with 2 minutes left, no timeouts left and the ball at you're own 20, who would you pick?

Kellen Moore stated his case.

Moore drove Boise State 56 yards in 5 plays as Boise State beat Virginia Tech 33-30. The Broncos started the game off great, taking a 17-0 lead after 1 quarter. But they ended up needing to rally to pick up the W.

Boise State kicked a field goal to get things started, and then they forced the Hokies to punt. But on the punt, WR Austin Pettis came around the end unblocked and he got a piece of the punt. Pettis ended up catching a TD pass from Kellen Moore that you could tell they worked on in practice.

On Boise's next drive, they started at their own 22. After a first down, they were forced to 3rd and 25 at their own 24. Doug Martin took the handoff and raced 23 yards, and a running into the kicker penalty gave Boise new life, Jeremy Avery rushed for 22 yards on the drive, and Tommy Gallarda made a spectacular touchdown catch to give Boise a 17-0 lead,

But then Virginia Tech struck. Tyrod Taylor got it going, and he completed 3 passes for 59 yards. Ryan Williams punched the ball in for a touchdown, and the Hokies were down 10.

Boise State led another scoring drive, although this time they could only pick up a field goal. However, a bad kickoff led to good field position for Virginia Tech. The Hokies picked up first and goal at the Boise 9, but 2 sacks forced the Hokies to try a field goal. Chris Hazley missed, and it was Boise ball.

With the momentum on their side, you would think Boise would take a 27-7 lead with another TD, but no. Doug Martin fumbled, and VaTech quickly made it down to the 12 yard line, where Tyrod Taylor hit Ryan Williams for a TD. That was the score at the half.

In the third quarter, Boise State got the ball back. But Kellen Moore fumbled, because he hit his lineman trying to the ball. Ryan Williams punched the ball over the goal line for 6, and VaTech led 21-20.

Boise State's next drive didn't seem to be going too well either. The Broncos were forced to 3rd and 1, and D.J Harper was running the ball. But that instantly changed. He broke a tackle in the backfield, made a stiff arm and raced 71 yards for the score. The PAT was blocked, but Boise still led 26-21.

Virginia Tech couldn't do much, but they got into field goal territory. Hazley missed it by a mile, but a running into the kicker penalty gave Virginia Tech more yards. They went for it on fourth down, and Tyrod Taylor hit Jarrett Boykin for the first. Then Boykin broke a tackle, races into the end zone and gave Virginia Tech a one point lead. Although Tyrod Taylor got sacked on the 2 point conversion try, VaTech still led.

Again, Boise drove downfield. Kyle Brotzman had a chance to give Boise State the lead, but he missed a 30 yard kick wide left. With 7:38 in the fourth, Virginia Tech nailed a field goal. The score was 30-26 Virginia Tech.

Boise failed to score on one drive, but then they got the ball again. Tyler Schoemaker picked up a first down, then Moore hit Austin Pettis on the sideline. Pettis picked up about 20 yards, and a penalty was added on to that. On second down, Pettis beat out his man for a TD. Boise took the lead!

The Hokies were then forced with 4th and 11. Tyrod Taylor went deep for Jarrett Boykin, but Boykin couldn't handle the ball. Boise had won! A great defensive started turned into some good throws by Kellen Moore, and then it became a 71 yard TD run by D.J Harper. And at last, it turned into Kellen Moore leading the Broncs to victory. With Oregon State, Nevada, Fresno State and Wyoming on the schedule. Boise can't sleep on those. But a BCS title doesn't look unlikely.
