Seattle Mariners vs. Oakland A's

Looking at the talent level of the Mariners, you would have probably thought that they were a World Series contender.

     Oakland didn't.

Mark Ellis hit the walk off single in the 10th inning to power the A's by the Mariners 2-1. Edwar Ramirez took the win while Kanekao Texiara took the loss.

Ichiro Suzuki singled in the first, but was picked off by Dallas Braden at first. Chone Figgins and Milton Bradley struck out, but Oakland didn't do much better. Ian Snell struck Daric Barton out, and 2 A's flied out in foul territory.

In the top of the second 3 Mariner batters grounded or popped out to 3rd, 2nd, and 1st (in order), but Eric Chavez and Mark Ellis got out at shortstop, and Travis Buck grounded out to first. But in the third Dallas Braden struck out 2 more, and Ichiro popped out. But Ian Snell struck one Athletic out and ended th inning without any runs allowed.

In the fourth Braden struck 2 out, but Felix Guitteriz hit a double and scored on a wild pitch. But Kurt Suzuki hit a 398 foot home run to left for the A's as the score was tied at 1. Casey Kotchman and Eric Byrnes went down swinging, and Adam Moore grounded out to third for Oakland. But Seattle only needed 3 batters to do the job, keeping it at 1.

Jack Wilson struck out, and Braden was able to keep the Mariners at 1 run. But Ian Snell struck out Eric Chavez and forced grounders that ended the sixth inning. Milton Bradley struck out again, and Dallas Braden ended his game with 1 run allowed and 9 strikeouts in 7 innings. Snell ended with 1 run allowed in 6 innings and 4 strikeouts.

3 fly outs ended the 7th inning, but Oakland was able to stop Seattle again. Brad Ziegler was able to retire the M's again, but Kurt Suzuki grounded into a double play to end the inning. Andrew Bailey finished off the M's, and after a single by Mark Ellis and a double by Travis Buck the bases were loaded. But Rajai Davis struck out, and Daric Barton flied out.

Jack Wilson lined out to center to end the top of the 10th, but Oakland had a chance. Kevin Kouzmanoff singled, and Kurt Suzuki singled. Eric Patterson pinch-ran for Kouzmanoff. Mark Ellis then hit a deep single to center-right and the A's won 2-1.

Women's championship: Maya Moore scored 23 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to help Connecticut overcome an 18-9 deficit to outscore Stanford 35-13 down the stretch and win their 78th straight 53-47 over Stanford. This is Uconn's second straight 39-0 season.
