       MLB Update
       Strong defense, good run scoring helps A's beat Angels 9-4
       Josh Willingham grand slam, 5 RBI's help Nationals beat Mets 5-2.
       4 homers (2 from Alex Gonzalez) help Blue Jays sweep Orioles 5-2.
       Solo homer helps Phillies keep Astros winless 2-1.
       Defense, 7th and 8th help Reds rally by Cubs 3-1.
       Defense helps Rangers cream Mariners 9-2.
       3 Adrian Beltre RBI's help Red Sox beat Royals 3-1.
       Posada, A-Rod 2 RBI's help Yankees beat Rays 7-3.
       Andrew Jones' single helps White Sox beat Twins 5-4.
       Defense helps Rockies overcome Padres 4-2.
       13 run fourth, Kelly Johnson and Chris Young back-to-back homers help D-Backs beat Pirates 15-6.
      Pablo Sandoval hits 2 run homer, triple, scores 2 runs as the Giants defeated the Braves 6-3. Tim Lincecum struck out 10 and picked up his second win. Aubrey Huff had a triple off of a Matt Diaz error and Mark DeRosa scored 2 runs on a single that was turned into a triple because of an error. It was the tenth anniversary of AT&T Park. 
        Indians vs. Tigers (brief)
        After a Luis Valbuena grand slam and a sac fly to give the Indians a 5-0 lead, this game looked over. And in the middle of the sixth, the Indians led Detroit 7-1. But a 2 run single by Maggilo Ordonez kept Detroit in it, but a Shin-Soo-Choo home run gave the Indians an 8-3 lead. But Detroit never gave in. Scott Sizemore hit an RBI double in the bottom of the seventh, and after a shutout eighth the Tigers were ready.


     Brandon Inge hit an RBI single, and Ramon Santiago grounded into a double play but he scored a run. A double play ended the top of the ninth, and again Detroit was again ready. Carlos Gullien hit an RBI double, and a walk scored a run. Gullien scored on a wild pitch by Chris Perez and Detroit won 9-8.


      Florida vs. LA Dodgers (brief)
      After the LA Dodgers scored 4 4th inning runs, the Marlins looked ready to give up. But they didn't. Cameron Maybin and Hanley Ramirez walked, and Jorge (YOR-HAY) Cantu hit a 393 foot homer to left field. LA took a 5-3 lead. but then Florida struck.


     Cody Ross hit an RBI single to left, then the Marlins held the Dodgers scoreless. Cameron Maybin hit a fielder's choice single, and he stole second. Hanley Ramirez walked, and Cantu knocked both guys in with an RBI double to deep left. Clay Hensley struck out 4 in 3 innings and picked up the win and the save.


     Brewers vs. Cardinals (brief)
     Milwaukee had had terrible outings Friday and Saturday vs. the Cardinals and were looking to get it going Sunday on ESPN. Rickie Weeks went 393 feet in the first inning for Milwaukee, and Corey Hart hit a homer. 2 errors by David Freese helped Milwaukee score 2 more runs. Randy Wolf struck out 2 for Milwaukee in the first 3.

     But the Cardinals scored on a walk and a groundout, and they were back in the game. But, in the bottom of the fifth Ryan Braun hit a 2 run shot, and a fielders choice play scored another run for Milwaukee. But in the seventh, Albert Pujous hit a 2 run shot. It wasn't over.

     With 2 outs in the 9th, Pujous hit his second homer to make it 7-6. Matt Holliday hit a solo homer to tie the game. But with 1 out, Casey McGehee hit a Dennys Reyes pitch 409 feet to left as the Brewers improved to 3-3 with the 8-7 win.


      Masters:
      When Phil Mickelson entered the third round of the Masters tournament, he was trailing Tiger Woods and Lee Westwood by 2 strokes. What some people didn't realize is that it was the perfect position for him.


     Mickelson hit a near-perfect 2nd shot on the par-5 12th and finished with a birdie, and then he followed that up with a birdie on 13 to take a 2 stroke lead over K.J Choi. Anthony Kim cut the deficit to 2, but it was clear from Mickelson's play that the 24 year old Kim would fall short. He finished in 3rd.


     Lee Westwood held a 1 stroke lead at the end of 3, but he and Mickelson struggled to get going and they ended up tied after 9 holes. But Mickelson gained his composure and he hit a birdie on 15 to move to -15. He hit par on the next 2 holes and "Lefty" hit a birdie to win his 3rd green jacket and 3rd in 7 years. He won an automatic bid to next year's Masters and was congratulated by Angel Cabrera, last year's winner, and Matteo Manassero, a 16 year old who was the youngest player ever in the Masters.


     NBA Update: Joakim Noah had 18 points, 7 assists, and 19 rebounds, Derrick Rose had 26 as the Bulls beat the Raptors 104-88 to take over eighth place in the East with 2 games left.


      Today's Prospects, Tomorrow's Stars
     Stephen Strasburg, the top draft pick in 09', hit an RBI double and allowed 4 runs and 4 hits in the Harrisburg Senators 6-4 win over the Altoona Curve. He pitched 5 innings and 8 strikeouts, 2 in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th. Harrisburg is the Double-AA affiliate of the Washington Nationals, while Altoona is the affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates.


     Louisville Bats pitcher Aroldis Chapman, the most anticipated prospect in a while for the Reds, pitched 4 2/3 innings and struck out 9 of 19 batters in the Bats 2-1 win over the Toledo Mudhens. He pitched 10 balls at 99 miles an hour, and 3 were clocked at 101 miles an hour. The Bats are the AAA affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds.


     College Hockey
     John Muse had a huge first period and allowed 0 goals, Cam Atkinson scored 2 third period goals as Boston College defeated Wisconsin 5-0 Saturday in the College Hockey Championship. BC sealed the game early in the third with 2 goals in 2:02. The fourth seeded Eagles defeated top seeded Miami Ohio in the Frozen 4 7-1 Thursday, and Wisconsin defeated R.I.T 8-1. 


     NHL Hockey
     Matt Carle scored with 6:54 in the third period and Danny Briere's shootout goal helped the Philadelphia Flyers nab the 7th spot in the Eastern Conference with a 2-1 shootout win over the New York Rangers. The Flyers will face the New Jersey Nets.
  
     Brad Stuart scored the game-winning goal with 3:11 left in overtime as Detroit took away Chicago's hopes at a #1 seed with a 3-2 OT win on the road. 5th seeded Detroit will face 4th seeded Phoenix in the playoffs and the Blackhawks will face Nashville Friday.


    NFL Update: Super Bowl XLIII MVP Santonio Holmes has been traded to the New York Jets for a fifth round draft pick. Holmes was suspended for the first 4 games because of reported assault in March. The Steelers were planning to release Holmes if they could not find a trade.


     NBA Update
     Dwight Howard scored 22 and grabbed 13 rebounds as the Magic erased a 16 point second half deficit as Orlando defeated the LeBron-less (rest) Cavaliers. The Magic took a 98-92 game to improve to 57-23 and most likely set up a 2 vs. 7 match-up vs. Charlotte. 


     Monta Ellis scored 25 as the Warriors rallied from a 22-7 deficit to beat Oklahoma City 120-117 despite 40 points and 10 rebounds from Kevin Durant. The Warriors are 25-55 and the Thunder are 49-31.


     LaMarcus Aldridge had 24 points and 11 rebounds, Martell Webster hit 3 GW free throws to take advantage of Kobe and Derek Fisher missing 3 of 4 as the Trail Blazers upset the Lakers 91-88. Portland dropped LA to 3-6 in their last 9 and they stayed tied for 6th with San Antonio and Oklahoma City.
