Duke vs. West Virginia

At the beginning of the year, everyone thought Kansas, Kentucky, or Michigan State would win it all. They didn't think much of Duke's big 3.

     Duke did.

Jon Scheyer scored 23, Kyle Singler scored 21, and Nolan Smith scored 19 in Duke's 78-57 rout of West Virginia. The Blue Devils will face Butler Monday for the National Championship.

Kyle Singler hit 3 layups early and then a 3 from the middle to put Duke on top 18-11, but after 5 points from Kevin Jones and a 3 by John Flowers, the score was 23-21.

But then 3 point madness struck. Singler hit another 3, then Nolan Smith hit one, and he missed but and offensive rebound gave him another try from the right wing, which he buried. He hit another one from the left wing and Duke led 37-24.

Devin Ebanks scored on a layup and a 3 point play to cut the deficit to 39-31 at the half, and after a Wellington Smith 3 and 2 free throws by Da'Sean Butler, the score was 43-38. But Smith hit another 3, and then Jon Scheyer hit his 3rd.

After 3 Duke free throws, Miles Plumlee converted a putback slam but got called for a technical foul. Butler hit 2 free throws, and he hit a jumper to cut the deficit to 58-48. But 56 seconds later, Butler tripped over a Duke player and injured the outside of his knee, ending his WVU career (he was a senior).

Scheyer hit a 3 to give Duke a 67-52 lead, and with 3:16 left Kyle Singler gave Duke a 72-57 lead with a 3. Scheyer hit another one, and Jordan Davidson converted from the far left perimeter as Duke won 78-57. The Blue Devils will face Butler Monday at 9:00 PM ET, 6:00 PM PT.
