Yankees vs Rangers

Yankees vs Rangers
Brett Gardner. Derek Jeter. Marcus Thames. A-Rod. Mark Texiara. Robinson Cano. It doesn't matter who was up, they came through. And the Yankees survived.

New York rallied from a 5-0 deficit to beat Texas 6-5 and the Yanks took a 1-0 series lead. C.C Sabathia went 4 5 run innings, allowing a homer to Josh Hamilton and a 2 run double by Michael Young.

After C.J Wilson retired the top of the Yankee order, Elvis Andrus walked and Michael Young singled. Josh Hamilton was up, and he fell behind 0-2. However, Sabathia made another mistake.

He gave Hamiltom a hanging breaking ball, a pitch that Hamilton feasted on. He hit a line drive into the first row of the stands, giving Texas 3 runs early. In the next 2 innings both teams got opportunities, but no one scored.

In the fourth Matt Treanor hit a one out single, and after Jorge Cantu flied out Elvis Andrus chopped a single into shallow center field. After that Michael Young came up, and Sabathia made another mistake.

Young hit a double into right center field, and the Rangers had more runs. After that Sabathia threw a wild pitch, but the Rangerd couldn't score. That was the end of Sabathia's night.

Curtis Granderson started the fifth inning with a walk, and Brett Gardner reached on a fielder's choice. However Derek Jeter grounded into a double play, and the inning was over.

In the seventh C.J Wilson was still going strong, but he gave up a home run to Robinson Cano to lead off the inning. After the Rangers bats went 1-2-3, the Yankees came up again in the eighth.

Gardner came up again, and he hit a ball in between first and second. Ian Kinsler fielded it, and he flipped it to C.J Wilson. However Gardner's hustle got him on base, and then came Derek Jeter.

Jeter hit a double down the right field line, scoring Gardner and cutting the deficit to 5-2. After that hit C.J Wilson was taken out, and Darren Oliver was put in. Wilson allowed 6 hits and 3 runs over 7 innings.

Oliver walked Nick Swisher and Mark Texiara, and Oliver was taken out. Darren O'Day was thrown into the action with Alex Rodriguez up. Rodriguez hit a ball that went right over Michael Young's glove. It scored 2 runs, and the Yankees were only down 5-4.

Robinson Cano, who hit a homer earlier in the game, hit a single to center field. Josh Hamiltom couldn't field it, and Mark Texiara scored on the error. Then came Marcus Thames.

Thames broke his bat on the play, but got just enough of the ball to hit it over Michael Young and into left field. The ball dropped into left field, and Rodriguez scored.

Although New York couldn't score any more, Dustin Moseley finished off the bottom of the Texas order. In the bottom of the ninth Mitch Moreland doubled, but Michael Young struck out swinging and Josh Hamilton grounded out. Derek Jeter fielded the grounder and threw to Texiara, who recorded the out.

Game 2 is today at 1:00 PM PT. Phil Hughes pitches for the Yankees while Colby Lewis takes the mound for Texas. Hughes pitched 7 shutout innings in the Yankees win over the Twins to advance to the ALCS.
