Collge Football Recap

Washington at USC
Jake Locker finally proved that he could be a great quarterback, espacially in the clutch. And with 8 games left, he has plenty of time to showcase his talent.

Locker converted on a key fourth down play, Erik Folk nailed a 33 yarder as time expired and Washington upset USC 32-31 at the Coliseum. The Trojans fell to Washington at home for the first time in 14 years.

USC took a quick 7-0 lead on a 37 yard TD run by Allen Bradford, but Washington responded with a field goal. Early in the second quarter, Jake Locker led a long touchdown drive to put Washington ahead 10-7.

USC couldn't do anything, and the Huskies took advantage. Jake Locker found Devin Aguilar open, and he scored to put UW on top 17-7.

But the Trojans quickly came back, as Marc Tyler ran for 2 touchdowns. A Washington field goal made the score 21-20 at the half in favor of USC. But early in the third, Folk drilled another kick, and the Huskies led 23-21.

But Allen Bradford led USC downfield, and he scored another TD, putting the Trojans up 28-23. However, Jake Lockef fought back, converting on 3rd and goal at the 2 and getting a first down. But Locker appeared to be injured. He was helped off the field.

Backup Keith Price was being pressured on the next play, so he threw to Chris Izbicki on the next play, and he caught it. Although the 2 point conversion failed, UW led 29-28. But that wouldn't last long, for USC took the lead back, and late in the game they took the ball back too.

With a 31-29 lead, Joe Houston was up to put the Trojans ahead by 5. The kick was looking good the whole way, but it was curving. It clanged off the upright, and the score was the same.

Washington couldn't convert, and on fourth down it looked like USC was going to escape at home. But Locker hit D'Andre Goodwin over the middle for a new set of downs, and the Huskies had new life.

On the next play, Chris Polk found a hole, broke a tackle and went 26 yards. The Huskies got down to the USC 25, but it was 3rd down.

Locker ran around left end for 6 yards, and then Polk ran for 4 yards to set up Folk's kick. USC called 2 timeouts, and they decided not to call timeout before the kick. Folk drilled the kick, and Washington upset the Trojans.

Stanford at Oregon
Oregon outscored Stanford 49-10 in the last 3 quarters in a 52-31 win. The Ducks rallied from a 21-3 first quarter deficit to top the Cardinal by 21.

Oregon took an early 3-0 lead, but Stanford went downfield and Luck threw a perfect pass to Griff Whalen. Oregon fumbled on the ensuing kickoff, and Andrew Luck ran for a 10 yard touchdown. Stanford had a 14-3 lead early.

Again, Oregon couldn't do anything, and Stanford got great field position. They handed the ball off to Stephan Taylor, who broke 2 tackles and went into the end zone. Stanford led 21-3 after 1.

The Ducks weren't done yet. They had come back from 10 point deficits to win by 11+ points twice this year, and they got started quickly. Jeff Maehl was picked up by a linebacker, and he caught the pass and scored. Then the Ducks tried an onside kick.

Kicker Rob Beard recovered, and the Ducks scored on a LaMichael James TD run. Oregon had new life, and they were down by just 4.

But the Cardinal responded, and they got to the Oregon 36. On a pass, Coby Fleener wasn't picked up, and he caught the pass. Stanford was back up by 11.

If the Ducks couldn't get anything, it would be huge. But the Ducks got to the Stanford 41, and Darron Thomas threw a TD pass to Josh Huff. Then the Ducks got the ball back, but blew a big chance with a pick. Stamford nailed a field goal at the half to make it 31-24.

Stanford started with the ball in the second half, but they got nothing. Oregon got the ball, and Darron Thomas scored from 6 yards out on a QB Keeper. The Ducks tied the game.

Stamford got out to midfield on a 3rd down conversion, and Chris Owusu appeared to have a first down, but Javes Lewis knocked the ball out. Eddie Pleasent returned the fumble to the Cardinal 3, and LaMichael James ran into the end zone. UO was back on top.

Oregon got the ball back, and D.J Davis caught a TD. The Ducks didn't look back, and they won 52-31.
