Phillies vs Giants; College Football

Juan Uribe was tired of the boos at AT&T Park. It was time to make an impact to get a different reaction. So he figured that the only way to do that was to win the game.

And he did.

Uribe hit a 2 out homer off of Ryan Madson to give the Giants a 3-2 win over the Phillies to take the NLCS. Madson left a fastball right over the plate, and Uribe ripped it into right for a home run.

Andres Torres hit a leadoff single for San Francisco, but 2 strikeouts and a flyout wasted the base hit. But the Phillies would start off well. Placido Polanco walked and advanced to second on a wild pitch, and he scored on a Chase Utley double.

After Ryan Howard singled Jayson Werth came up, and he got a perfect pitch to hit. He just missed a 3 run homer, but he hit it deep enough for Utley to tag up and score. Philadelphia led 2-0 after 1 inning.

Pat Burrell singled to lead off the second, but a double play took Burrell off the bases. Juan Uribe hit a single, but Edgar Renteria flied out to end the inning.

After Jonathan Sanchez retired the bottom of the Giants order SF got some luck. Jonathan Sanchez hit a single, and Andres Torres hit a deep fly ball to center. Shane Victorino almost made the improbable catch, but he didn't, and Torres got a single.

Freddy Sanchez bunted Sanchez to third, and then Aubrey Huff came up. He lined one up the middle to score Sanchez, but Torres was tagged out. Buster Posey came up next.

Posey didn't get a good piece of a high pitch, but he made it tough for Placido Polanco to make the play. He threw to Ryan Howard, and right when Posey was called out, Howard dropped the ball. Aubrey Huff came around to score, and the game was tied at 2.

Jonathan Sanchez came through at the plate, but he was terrible at the mound. He walked Placido Polanco, then he hit Chase Utley on the back. As Utley was going to first, the ball bounced back to him. He tossed the ball back to Sanchez. There was something about that that Sanchez didn't like.

He wanted to speak with Utley, but Utley didn't want an argument. But everybody else did. Players and coaches from both teams came onto the field, and although nobody was ejected, Sanchez was pulled. The Giants went to southpaw Jeremy Affeldt.

Affeldt, who had struggled during the postseason, was ready for the challenge. He got Ryan Howard swigning upstairs, then he forced Jayson Werth to fly out and Shane Victorino to ground out. In the fourth Jeremy Affeldt went 1-2-3, inclduing a strikeout of Carlos Ruiz.

Then both teams started to strike. The Giants got 2 on with one out, but Roy Oswalt got Aubrey Huff to foul out and Buster Posey swinging on a high fastball. Philadelphia looked poised to score in the bottom half of the inning, but Madison Bumgardner forced a groundout to end the inning.

San Francisco got 2 on in the sixth with Edgar Renteria up, and Renteria hit one up the middle. However, Chase Utley made a great play to field the ball, step on second and throw to first for the double-play.

In the bottom of the sixth Raul Ibanez doubled and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt, and Ben Francisco came in to pinch-hit. Madison Bumgardner, the pitcher, threw 2 balls and then 2 strikes, then he got Francisco watching a great breaking ball hit the outside corner. After Jimmy Rollins flied out the inning was over.

After 2 quick outs Freddy Sanchez doubled and Aubrey Huff was intentionally walked, bringing up the rookie. But Posey, who was huge in Game 4, couldn't do it in Game 6. He grounded out into a fielder's choice to end the game.

Javier Lopez, who had been amazing for the Giants, came in relief. He got Placido Polanco and Chase Utley to get out, and then he got Ryan Howard swinging to end the inning.

In the top of the eighth Pat Burrell and Cody Ross couldn't come through, and Juan Uribe came up. With Ryan Madson in, the Phillies knew they couldn't surrender much. But they did surrender something.

Uribe got a change-up breaking right over the plate, and Uribe liked the pitch. He hit one deep into right field, and it kept going. Right fielder Jayson Werth had no chance at catching it, but it barely had enough on it to be a homer. The ball landed in the first row.

Tim Lincecum was put in relief for the Giants, and he looked to be off to a good start. He got Jayson Werth swinging on a slider, but after base hits by Shane Victorino and Raul Ibanez Lincecum was pulled, and closer Brian Wilson came in. Then luck stroke for the Giants.

Carlos Ruiz hit a liner to first, and it could have been a 2 run double. But Aubrey Huff was there to make the play, and he caught the ball. Shane Victorino was doubled off second, and Huff threw to Edgar Renteria to complete the double-play.

In the ninth San Francisco loaded the bases, but a smart move by Phillies manager Charlie Manuel forced the Giants to bring Brian Wilson to the plate. Wilson grounded out, and the inning was over. The Phillies had one last chance.

Ross Gload came up, and Gload, who didn't have a postseason hit, couldn't get one. He grounded out to Freddy Sanchez, getting the Giants closer to the series.

After Jimmy Rollins walked, Placido Polanco came up. Polanco grounded into a fielder's choice, and the Giants got Rollins going to second. But a walk of Chase Utley brought up Ryan Howard.

The 2009 NLCS MVP didn't have a RBI in the series, and the Giants looked to continue that. The count got to 3-2, and when that happened, Buster Posey decided to try something risky.

Posey decided to go for a slider on the outside corner, and Brian Wilson agreed. He threw a perfect pitch, and Howard thought it would miss the corner, so he held up. Bad call. The pitch was called a strike, and the Giants had won the NLCS!

San Francisco faces the Texas Rangers in Game 1 of the World Series Wednesday night at 4:30 PM PT. Cliff Lee is on the mound for Texas, while the Giants will go for Tim

Oklahoma at Missouri (brief)
Missouri's special teams and defense led the Tigers to an upset of number 1 Oklahoma as the Tigers won 36-27 at home. Missouri intercepted Landry Jones twice, and scored a touchdown on special teams.

Missouri recieved the kickoff, and the kick went to Gahn McGafee. McGafee found a hole, broke a tackle and raced 86 yards to the end zone to give Missouri a quick 7-0 lead. This was the second straight week a number one team has allowed the opening kick to be taken back for 6.

However, Landry Jones led the Sooners downfield. After throwing a touchdown Oklahoma seemed to be driving again, but Jones was intercepted by Aldon Smith. Smith returned the pick to the Oklahoma 28, turning the momentum over to the Tigers.

The Tigers quickly gained 28 yards, finishing off the touchdown drive with a 1 yard TD run by De'Vion Moore. However, the Sooners were driving again midway through the quarter. But again, they couldn't score. The drive resulted in a fumble, and Mizzou got the ball back.

The Tigers offense hadn't done anything yet, and they still weren't able to do anything. Oklahoma got the ball back, and this time they scored, with Landry Jones hitting DeMarco Murray for a 4 yard scoring strike.

However, the Tigers offense got going, and they made a field goal to end the half, giving them a 17-14 lead. Missouri got the ball back in the third, but they fumbled. However, the defense came through, forcing a field goal try that was missed.

The Tigers came through and scored another field goal, but the Oklahoma offense needed about 5 plays to turn a 6 point deficit into a one point lead. After 3 quarters Oklahoma led 21-20.

But Blaine Gabbert led Missouri to the 38, then he made a risky throw. But Jerrell Jackson was able to haul it in, and he bumped off of a defender and ran into the end zone for a touchdown. The Tigers led 26-21 after a failed 2 point try.

Oklahoma was looking to take the lead and keep it, but Zavier Gooden denied those chances. He intercepted Jones' first pass of the drive, and Missouri got a field goal, giving the Tigers a 29-21 lead.

After a 3 and out by the Sooners the Tigers got the ball back, and De'Vion Moore struck. He picked up 39 yards on one play to set up another touchdown, giving the Tigers a 15 point cushion against the number one team in the BCS.

However, any chances of a sure win were wiped away when the Sooners returned the kickoff to the 15 yard line. The Sooners picked up a first down, and Trey Millard ran for a touchdown as the Sooners cut the deficit to 9.

However, no more offense was granted to Oklahoma. A 3 and out ended any chances of Oklahoma winning, and the Tigers had beat the number 1 team. For the 3rd straight week, a number one team in the AP or BCS poll lost.
