NIT Update

Mississippi at California
Jorge Guiterrez scored 25 points and Allen Crabbe had 20 as Cal held off Ole Miss 77-74 in the first round of the NIT. The Bears travel to Colorado to take on the Buffs Friday night in Round 2.

The Bears only allowed the Rebels to 11 seconds, from 18:52-18:41 in the first half. Guiterrez carried Cal by grabbing rebounds and making huge buckets early in the game.

In the second half the game went back and forth, with Chris Warren for Ole Miss making nearly impossible 3's. The tempo would change quickly, with Bak Bak for Cal scoring 4 points in a row in the second half and some great passing leading to an Allen Crabbe layup. However, with the game in favor of Cal by 7, Terrence Henry made a thunderous dunk. The momentum seemed to swing, but a technical foul was called on Steadman Short of Ole Miss, giving Cal the 6 point lead back.

Then Allen Crabbe got into the action, knocking down a 3 from the wing, a free throw and a jumper. Cal led by 10 late, and it looked like the game was over, but the Rebels cut the deficit to 1 with just 52 seconds.

Harper Kamp made a jumper from the corner to boost Cal, only to watch Ole Miss get those 2 right back. Guiterrez made 2 free throws for Cal, and the Bears led 77-74. Cal contained Chris Warren and forced Terrence Henry to a bad shot, which he missed, at the buzzer. The Bears had won!
