2 more teams seal tourney bids; Officiating errors cost Rutgers

Rutgers vs St. John's
OK, maybe Rutgers wouldn't have been going much farther in the Big East tournament, but they at least deserved a shot. But the refs took that away.

2 controversial calls late in the game, including an obvious travel and step out of bounds handed St. John's a 65-63 win over Rutgers and stole any chance that Rutgers had of advancing in the tournament.

St. John's took a 26-17 lead early, but Rutgers cut the deficit to 4 at the half and made it a 2 point game early in the half, which seemed to give them momentum.

But then, with the scoring aids of 6 different people, the Red Storm took a 53-43 lead with about 8 minutes left. But unfortunately for them it wouldn't last, for Rutgers took a 1 point lead with 57 seconds to go.

With 11 seconds left and Rutgers trailing by 1, Mike Coburn went for a shot. Although an obvious foul occurred on the play nothing was called, and St. John's still led. However, then came the ultimate referee blow.

St. John's got a seal and seemed to win the game, but Justin Brownlee took 3 steps and stepped out of bounds, all with 1.7 seconds left. However, nothing was called, and St. John's survived. The Red Storm play Syracuse tomorrow.

Oregon State at Stanford
Stanford kept clawing back and back and back, but falling short. But at the end they finally had Jeremy Green, the star of the team, ready to go.

Except he didn't.

Green was stopped by a trap as time expired as Oregon State survived Stanford 69-67. Jared Cunningham led the Beavs with 24 points, including 10 free throws in a span of 2:12.

In the first half Stanford shot 12%, and was outscored 18-6 at one point in the half. Ahmad Starks led the Beavers in the first half, draining a trio of 3 pointers in Half 1. Oregon State led 26-18 at the half.

However, once the second half started Stanford couldn't stop missing threes, with Anthony Brown and Jeremy Green combining for 3 early in the second half to tie the game at 34. However, a lay-up by Ahmad Starks sparked a 9-2 run, which was capped off by a Jared Cunningham 3. Oregon State would regain an 8 point lead.

However, the Cardinal were coming back. They cut the score to 50-48, only to watch Jared Cunningham get 5 points in a row and watch Devon Collier make a near-impossible layup. However, Stanford kept cutting the deficit.

On almost every inbound play, Jared Cunningham got the ball. However, whenever Oregon State drilled 2 free throws Stanford seemed to knock down a 3.

But with 6 seconds left the pattern was not repeated. 2 Oregon State players smartly trapped Jeremy Green in the backcourt and forced a turnover at the buzzer as the Beavers held off Stanford 69-67. They will play Arizona tomorrow at 2:30.

Auto bids clinched
27 points, including 2 amazing threes by Devon Beitzel helped Northern Colorado beat Montana 65-60 to claim the Big Sky title.
