1 seed stunned; Gators, Dawgs move on

Arizona vs Duke
Whether it was a thunderous dunk, a beautiful pass or a Derrick Williams rejection, everything that Arizona seemed to be doing was right. Well, in the second half.

The Wildcats outscored Duke 93-77 in the second half to make it to the Elite Eight, where they will face 3rd seeded Connecticut. Derrick Williams scored a career-high 32 to lead Arizona.

Williams made a layup and drained a 3 pointer early to give Arizona the lead, and then he slammed home a miss to cut Duke's lead to 1. But the Blue Devils didn't like close games, especially against teams they could beat. So the Devils took a 31-20 lead and seemed to be on their way to a dominating win.

But Williams put in some free throws and 3 treys to make it a 6 point halftime game. However, Williams had just a little less than half of Arizona's points and no one else would step up for the Cats. Everyone thought Duke would shut down Williams and win easily.

Well, they did shut down the star of Arizona, but Lamont Jones, Kevin Parrom, Jamelle Horne and the rest of Arizona could not be stopped. The team was almost automatic, and they used that source of power to tie the game, then get every player involved in a 13-2 run that gave Arizona a 66-55 lead.

The Cool Cats were still unable to miss. Another thunderous dunk, this time from Jamelle Horne, gave Arizona the lead, and late in the game, with Arizona shooting a free throw up 86-70, Kyle Fogg missed and 3 Duke players tipped the ball back to Derrick Williams, who got his last bucket of the day.

Arizona plays Uconn Saturday at 4:05 PM PT.
