Super Bowl XLV

Although Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers both have very different styles of play, they both have one thing in common; the 2 Packer QB's won a Super Bowl title.

So Aaron Rodgers should be free of the Brett Favre questions.

Rodgers threw for 304 yards and 3 touchdowns, Nick Collins returned an interception back for a touchdown and Green Bay beat Pittsburgh 31-25 to take a 4th championship to Titletown. Greg Jennings was on the receiving end of 2 touchdowns, while Jordy Nelson caught the other and overcame 3 dropped passes, 4 by Green Bay.

Although Pittsburgh went 3 and out, they seemed to have the early advantage when Tramon Williams muffed a punt. But Green Bay recovered, and although they couldn't score on their first drive, James Starks was able to pick up 2 first downs and get Green Bay into Pittsburgh territory on drive 2, where Rodgers found Nelson deep for a 29 yard scoring strike.

An illegal block in the back penalty pinned Pittsburgh back to the 7, where they had Mike Wallace go deep. But Ben Roethlisberger was about to be sacked by Howard Green of Green Bay, so he lobbed it up. The pass was short, and Wallace had no chance of catching it. Instead it was Nick Collins, who read the play and stole the ball. He made a move and dove into the end zone, giving Green Bay a 14-0 lead.

But Pittsburgh's offense finally got going, and they were able to pick up a field goal and cut the deficit to 14-3. They looked poised to score again, but Jarrett Bush jumped a slant pattern and snatched the ball for an interception. After getting to the 21, Rodgers found Greg Jennings on a deep slant. Jennings caught the pass for a touchdown and a 21-3 Green Bay lead.

However, Big Ben and Hines Ward finally got their rhythm going, with Ward catching 3 key passes and a touchdown to shorten the Packer halftime lead to 21-10. Although Green Bay got the ball to start the second half, it was Pittsburgh who scored first, getting into the end zone on a Rashard Mendanhall run.

Pittsburgh got to the Green Bay 29, but they ended up losing 5 yards and a chance at points when Shaun Suisham's 52 yard field goal went wide left. Although Pittsburgh failed to do anything on their final drive of the 3rd quarter, they got the ball at the Green Bay 41 to start their next drive. After an 8 yard run Pittsburgh seemed sure to take the lead, but it was not to be. Clay Matthews forced a fumble on the next play and Desmond Bishop recovered, turning the momentum back in Green Bay's favor.

On 3rd and 10 at the Pittsburgh 40, following a dropped pass, Nelson caught a pass on a slant pattern and ran to the 2. After getting sacked for a loss of 6 Rodgers found Jennings on a corner route, giving the Pack Attack the 28-17 edge.

Although the drive took 4 minutes, Pittsburgh was still able to get a touchdown and the 2 point conversion and make the game 28-25. And when Green Bay's next possession looked to be lost, Pittsburgh 's chances started rapidly increasing. But Rodgers hit Jennings on a slant for 31 yards, and Green Bay ate up 5:22 and got a field goal. With 1:59 left, Big Ben had to lead Pitt 87 yards to win the game.

After picking up a first down and 5 yards, the Steelers seemed poised to shock the world. But after throwing it away and throwing an incomplete pass, it was 4th and 5 for Pittsburgh. Big Ben went for Mike Wallace on an out route, but Tramon Williams broke up the pass. Green Bay had won the Super Bowl!
