College Basketball Update

2 Texas, 4 Pittsburgh fall
Nebraska rallied from down 9 and held on to beat #2 Texas 70-67 and end the Longhorns' 11 game Big 12 win streak. Toney McCray helped Nebraska take the lead, then Brandon Richardson and Eshaunte Jones took the load.

2 layups by Richardson gave Nebraska an 8 point lead, and after Texas made it a 52-47 game, Eshaunte Jones drilled a 3 from the corner. 4 minutes later Jones struck again and made it a 60-49 game, which seemed to put the game out of reach. However, with less than 2 minutes left Texas went on a scoring rampage

7 points in 15 seconds by Jordan Hamilton cut the deficit to 65-60, and 2 free throws, an offensive rebound, another basket and a steal tied the game at 65 with over a minute to go.

Then came Richardson; again. He hit 2 free throws, and another by the Cornhuskers propelled Nebraska to a 68-65 lead. 2 of 3 free throws by J'Covan Brown made it a one point game, but 2 more free throws by Richardson sealed the win.

Pittsburgh vs St. Johns (brief)
Dwight Hardy made a layup with 1.2 seconds left and St. Johns stunned 4th ranked Pittsburgh 60-59. The Red Storm have now defeated 5 Top 25 teams.

Pittsburgh took a late 52-46 lead, but the Red Storm came back and took a 58-56 lead on 7 free throws by Dwight Hardy and D.J Kennedy. But then Ashton Gibbs struck.

Gibbs, who had scored 26 points, nailed a 3 pointer with 11 seconds left to hand Pittsburgh a 59-58 lead. Like a speeding bullet, Hardy dribbled down the court and made the play of his life.

He dribbled to the baseline and did a fake pivot, then got going and hit a layup. After a desperation shot by the Panthers fell short, the Red Storm started celebrating another win over a ranked opponent.

Other headlines
Layup by Solomon Hill, 26 points and a late block by Derrick Williams helped Arizona hold off Washington 87-86.
