NFL Sunday Recap; Crazy finish in the Meadowlands

Philadelphia at New York Giants
From one moment to another, like a flash of lightning, things dramatically changed in the Meadowlands. Before lightning (not literally) struck, New York was nursing a 31-10 lead with just 7:28 to go at home. With a win, they would gain control of their own destiny to the playoffs.

The aftershock was different.

Philadelphia scored 28 points in 7:28 and rallied to stun the Giants and gain control of their own destiny for the playoffs. During the rally, Michael Vick threw 2 touchdowns and ran for one, including another unexpected surprise.

The game started out as a defensive battle, with New York scoring first on a Mario Manningham 35 yard touchdown catch. However Philadelphia cut the deficit to 4 early in the second quarter with a field goal, and with 8:18 in the half the score remained 7-3. But New York turned the jets on.

Manningham caught a 33 yard touchdown pass to make it 14-3, then Eli Manning and co engineered another long scoring drive, this time with a field goal to make it 17-3. The Eagles had a chance to make something happen, but Jeremy Maclin fumbled, handing over another touchdown to New York to make it 24-3 at halftime.

Philadelphia punted twice, getting into New York territory on one drive. But they caught a lucky break when Mario Manningham fumbled at the Giants 25. Vick moved the team 17 yards then hit Maclin on an out route for 6 points to make it a 24-10 game.

Phladelphia got the ball back and had the momentum, but DeSean Jackson changed that by fumbling. New York cashed in the opportunity to make it 31-10, and the game seemed just about over. To everyone except the Eagles.

It took just 2 plays to change the game. One of those plays ordered Brent Celek, the tight end, to run a post route. He did, and he caught the pass before changing direction and reaching his destination of the end zone.

The other play was the onside kick that followed. Philadelphia recovered and quickly navigated the red zone, where Michael Vick found a hole to the left and scored. It was now a 31-24 game.

But the Giants could still seal the deal by running out the clock or by scoring a field goal, and it seemed like they might do so. But they were stopped at the Philadelphia 40, giving the ball back to Philadelphia at their own 12 yard line.

2 incomplete passes started the drive, but they followed with a 33 yard run from Vick and a 20 yard scramble later in the drive. This powered them to the New York 13, where Vick and Maclin connected on another out route. This tied the game up, and after another stop on defense, Philadelphia was set to get the ball with 13 seconds left.

DeSean Jackson was returning the punt. He didn't think he would ever get the chance to take back the punt, because punter Matt Dodge was ordered to kick away from Jackson. But Dodge either had the wrong foot or the wrong ears on, because his kick went straigt to Jackson.

D-Jack fumbled the punt but quickly recovered. However, this left 2 Giants at the perfect angle to nail Jackson and send the game into overtime. However, after a slight second of hesitation, Jackson took off down the middle and cut to the right sideline, making Dodge miss. To show off, he danced around the goal line before galloping in and finishing one of the most amazing games in NFL history with a blast.

Philadelphia is now 10-4 and one game ahead of the Giants in the NFC East.
