College Football Recap

Alabama vs LSU
At the beginning of the game, the Alabama offense didn't show up. Then, they started playing for a drive, then another possession in the 3rd, and finally one more time in the fourth quarter.

Even with a great defense, that wasn't enough.

A little fourth down trickery led LSU to a 24-21 upset of Alabama, eliminating the Tide from BCS title contention. ALthough LSU wasn't much better, Rueben Randle and the Tigers stated their case to the BCS with a W.

Alabama went 3 and out in their first try, and their second resulted in a pick. LSU got a field goal off of that, and then Alabama failed to advance the ball. But on their next drive, the Crimson Tide took the lead.

A 22 yard run by Trent Richardson set the ball up at the 1 yard line, where Greg McElroy passed to Richardson for a TD. The Tigers moved the ball well, but they couldn't score. The score was 7-3 Alabama at the half.

LSU got down to the 28 yard line to open the second half, but Josh Jasper was no good from 45 yards out. But on the next drive, Jordan Jefferson hit Rueben Randle for a 75 yard touchdown. But the Tide came back with a mix of runs and passes, and Ingram ran for a 5 yard score to make it 14-10.

However, LSU would come back. A 41 yard run by Russell Sheppard set the Tigers up for a field goal, and then the offense came to life.

Stevan Ridley had runs of 19 and 18 yards to set LSU up for a score, then he punched the ball in for 6. After Rueben Randle caught the 2 point conversion pass the Tigers led 21-14. Then the defense came to life.

Drake Nevis sacked Greg McElroy for a loss of 6 yards, then forced a fumble. The Tigers recovered and got a field goal, taking a 24-14 lead with just 5:34 to play.

However, the Tigers defense failed to seal the game. Alabama picked up a quick 6 by taking only 2:11 off the clock, and it was up to the offense to seal the deal.

It didn't look to good early for LSU. They lost 3 yards on 2 plays, and they were forced with 3rd and 13. But Rueben Randle came up big again, catching a 47 yard pass. After LSU punted, only 18 seconds were left on the clock.

And the Tide couldn't move 86 yards in 18 seconds, as the defense held to preserve an upset. LSU had won, and stayed alive in the BCS and SEC West race.
