College Football Update
Ole Miss
The SEC was looking weak. It wasn't looking like the SEC that it normally is. And then one team raised to a higher level.

Early in 2010, Jerimiah Masoli was suspended from the Oregon Ducks football team. Masoli, a junior, was considered to be a Heisman canditate. But when he was proven guilty of stealing a laptop, he was suspended.

In early summer, he sent a letter to many schools asking to become a walk-on, and he got 6 responses. One of those schools was Ole Miss.

What Masoli said stood out about his meeting with Houston Nutt, the Ole Miss coach, was his attitude. He thought Nutt was a great guy, and he accepted a walk-on offer on August 1, 2010.

However, it was a zero-tolerance offer. That means that if Masoli breaks a law, then he will be released. But for now, Ole Miss can expect to have a great year.

Last year, Masoli threw for 2,147 yards and 15 touchdowns, and he had 4 great games. Oregon won three of them. One big one was against USC, where he threw for 222 yards and a touchdown in a 47-20 win over the Trojans.

Another one was a 253 yard, 3 touchdown performance in a 42-3 blowout over the Cal Bears. That was the game that really put Oregon in the spotlight. The next game was against Stanford, his best passing game of the year. He threw for 334 yards and 3 touchdowns, but the Ducks lost 51-42.

One of the best games of the year was a breakout performance for Masoli. He scored all 6 of Oregon's touchdowns, and completed a great 4th down pass to Jeff Maehl, and touchdown with 6 seconds left to tie the game. In OT Masoli hit Jeff Maehl to tie the game, and he won the game 44-41 with a 1 yard TD run. The Ducks won in 2OT.

The Rebels face Alabama, Tennessee, Fresno State, Arkansas, Auburn, and LSU. The schedule features good teams, but Masoli should lead them to a good season.

Prediction: 10-2 season, Gator Bowl.

MLB Update
The Yankees and Rays have taken over the AL, in a big race. New York won a huge game Wednesday night against Texas, rallying from a 5 run deficit to win 7-6 on Marcus Thames's 3 RBI's. New York had 17 strikeouts.

From last Friday to Sunday, the Rays got swept by Toronto in a pivotal 3 game series. On the final game of the series, Brandon Morrow had a no-hitter through 8.2 innings in a 1-0 Toronto win. Morrow had 17 strikeouts.

Last night the Padres beat the Giants in a critical game, and the Mets R.A Dickey threw a 1-hitter. The Royals beat the Yankees, the Orioles shut out the Rays, and the Rangers beat the Red Sox on a walk-off.

NFL preseason
Redskins vs Bills
Donovan McNabb threw a touchdown in his Redskin debut as the Redskins beat the Bills 42-17. Keiland Williams rushed for 2 touchdowns, Brandon Banks returned a punt for a touchdown and Rex Grossman threw for a touchdown.

This was a terrible game for Buffalo. They lost both of their 2 best running backs in 6 plays. But both are expected to be back on September 12, when the season starts.

The Redskins play the Ravens on August 21 next, while the Bills play Indianapolis 2 days earlier.

Jaguars vs Eagles
Kevin Kolb threw for 95 yards, Mike Kafka led the Eagles on the GW FG drive with 9:11 left as the Eagles beat the Jaguars 28-27. Michael Vick threw for 119 yards, and he rushed for a 10 yard touchdown.

Kicker David Akers was huge for the Eagles. He nailed 5 field goals, including the game-winning one with 9:11 left. His longest kick was 36 yards, and his shortest was 29 yards from the goalposts.

Luke McCown had a great game for the Jaguars. He gave them a 27-19 lead on a 55 yard TD pass to Tiquan Underwood, and he threw 3 touchdowns.

The Eagles play the Bengals next, while the Jaguars play the Dolphins next.

NBA Trade
Darren Collison was sent to the Pacers and Trevor Ariza was traded to the Hornets in a 4 team deal. Courtney Lee was also shipped to Houston.

The Hornets have Chris Paul, and they knew that Collison would only get to play like 10 minutes a game, so they gave Collison away to Indiana. In return, they get a great 6th man in Ariza.

The Rockets got a great 3 point shooter in Courtney Lee to go with Kevin Martin. The Rockets got the final piece in a dynamic guard duo, while the Nets get Troy Murphy. Murphy was good in the Golden State, but he has fallen apart as he gets early.

Collison can get double-doubles, and he can lead his team to victory. He proved that when he led the Hornets to a near .500 record when Chris Paul was hurt. He should do the same in Indy.

Trade winner: Pacers
