Kevin Slowey pitched a no-hitter through 7 innings, but was pulled because of elbow tendinitis. Slowey threw 106 pitches.

The young streaky pitcher retired 13 batters in a row earlier against Kansas City earlier this year in a 7-3 win, and he dominated again. He got some help from the Twins D too.

Manager Ron Gardenhire said that he would be booing himself, but he was in charge of Slowey's arm (from ESPN). And, 7 previous pitchers have lost no-hitters with 5 outs left, not including Armando Gallraga's gem.

Slowey is probably the Twins second best pitcher this year, behind Carl Pavano. If Slowey does his job and helps the Twins win the games that he starts, Minnesota will have a boost. A sweep over Oakland helps.

All you could hear from the Twins crowd was boos, but it could end up being the right decision. Twins fans and baseball fans didn't like Gardenhire's decision, but it was to protect the arm of Kevin Slowey.

Slowey only walked 3 batters, and he struck out 5 in his performance. The defense was a help too, preserving the no-no.

The sweep helped Minnesota take a 3 game lead over the White Sox, who have struggled since the All-Star break. Slowey is now 11-5, while A's pitcher Vin Mazzaro fell to 6-5. Matt Capps picked up his fourth save since being traded to Minneapolis, while the Twins won 4-2. The bullpen allowed 3 hits.

Tebow debuts
Tim Tebow threw for 105 yards and completed 8 out of 13 passes as the Broncos lost to the Bengals 33-24. The score was 23-17 Cincy when Tebow entered the game.

On the last drive of the game, Tebow led the Broncos 73 yards downfield. He ran for a 7 yard touchdown on the last play of the game.

With 12 seconds left, he made a great throw to Britt Davis, who caught the ball for a 33 yard gain. On his 2nd NFL throw, he had a perfect throw to Matt Willis, who dropped the ball. He didn't throw any touchdowns, but he proved capable of being a good NFL quarterback. If I were Josh McDaniels, I would move him past Brady Quinn on the depth chart. Quinn threw a pick-6.

Although the Bengals won by 9, that is what nobody really cares about. What Bronco fans (like me) care about, is the beginning and end. Here is 3 reasons why Bronco fans feel good about this game.

1: The beginning; Kyle Orton played well, going 8/13 and throwing for 84 yards and 2 TD's. After the first quarter, when the Bengals starting defense played, the Broncos led 14-0. Kyle Orton looked good.

2: Red Zone Defense; In this game, Cincinnati kicked 5 field goals, and although they made 4, they could have scored 16 more if the Broncos defense didn't step up. Alphonso Smith and Wesley Woodyard had 6 tackles, and although no interceptions happened on D, the Broncos can feel good about their defensive reserves.

3: Tebow; Tim Tebow was told that he couldn't play in the NFL. He wouldn't be able to throw. He'd be too used to college. But as he took the field, he looked to answer those questions. He did. He had 2 perfect throws, and although one of them was dropped, he still threw for 105 yards. He ran for a touchdown, and led Denver on a 73 yard TD drive. Bronco fans can expect great things from Tebow.
