2011 NBA Playoffs; Dirk, Mavs Take over Late Fourth Quarter, Finish off Thunder in Five

If the Oklahoma City Thunder had a time machine, they'd use it.

Last Thursday, Oklahoma City was tied 1-1 in the series, and they had home court.

Now, the Dallas Mavericks are in the NBA Finals.

Dirk scored 26, Shawn Marion scored 26, and the Mavericks finished off the Thunder in five to advance to the NBA Finals for the first time since the '05-06 season. The final score was 100-96.

No one expected the Lakers to be knocked out by the Mavericks, but Dirk and Dallas dominated the series. No one saw the Mavericks making the NBA Finals, but here they are, awaiting the winner of the Chicago-Miami series.

Nowitzki has given his all this series, averaging 32.2 PPG against OKC, and averaging 44 PPG in games one and four. If he continues to light up the Finals, Dallas may be celebrating a title.

The last time Dallas made the finals, five years ago, Miami was the opponent. The Heat own a 3-1 series lead on Chicago, and they are ready to go in for the kill.

If the Mavericks face Miami, it will be Jason Kidd, Jason Terry, J.J Barea, Shawn Marion, Peja Stojavokic, and of course, Dirk, leading the way. Dirk and Terry may have failed in '06, but Dallas is a different team. They've got the talent to win it all.

Nowitzki has made clutch shots all series, especially in Game 4 and Game 5. His two free throws tied the game in the fourth, and his superior shooting and skill-set helped the Mavericks send the game to an extra session.

In the fifth game, the Thunder led 94-92 when Dirk stepped up and knocked down a three from the top of the key. Shawn Marion finished it off by getting a tipped ball, dunking it, and finishing a three-point play.

In the early fourth, the Thunder were just dominating. They held an eight-point lead, but again, the Mavericks climbed back into the game with free throws, and finished them with clutch plays.

Now, while the Thunder watch film of what they did wrong, the Mavericks will be celebrating, getting prepared for Miami or Chicago. Because right now, it could be the Thunder celebrating a NBA Finals berth.
