Upset at Qwest Field; Thriller in Indianapolis

New Orleans at Seattle
In any other division, the Seattle Seahawks wouldn't be in the playoffs and they never would have even gotten the chance to be here today. But they got the chance, and here they are, still standing.

Marshawn Lynch scored on a crazy 67 yard touchdown run as Seattle stunned the defending champion Saints 41-36 to move on to the second round. The Seahawks will play either Atlanta or Chicago.

The opening kickoff went out of bounds and gave the Saints good field position, which they took advantage of and got a field goal. After a Saints interception Drew Brees hit Heath Evans for a touchdown, giving New Orleans a 10-0 lead.

However, a nice kick return gave Seattle good field position, and they got to the New Orleans 10. On 1st down John Carlson slipped behind the Saints D and caught a touchdown, making it 10-7. The scored stayed the same after 1 quarter.

But the Saints roared back, with Jeremy Shockey catching a 19 yard pass on 2nd and 15 to help set up a 3rd and 4 at the Seattle 5. On a draw play Julius Jones found a hole and rode it 5 yards into the end zone, and New Orleans held a commanding 17-7 lead.

But Seattle again got good field position, and they got into New Orleans territory. On a second down backup tight end Cameron Morrah ran a hitch-and go and got open, picking up 39 yards. On first and goal John Carlson intentionally fell down, making the defense forget about him, then got up and caught a touchdown pass.

After 2 3 and outs the Saints got the ball ready to strike, but Julius Jones fumbled and Seattle recovered. The Seahawks got a field goal, and on their next possession they took the lead. On 3rd and 3 Brandon Stokley found an opening through the D and caught a touchdown. Garrett Hartley kicked a field goal at the half to make it 24-20.

Seattle started with the ball in the 3rd quarter and made the advantage count. On 3rd and 2 Mike Williams used his speed to beat double-coverage and catch a touchdown pass. Marshawn Lynch made some nice runs to help set up a field goal and make it 34-20. Seattle got the ball in Saints territory after a fourth down stop, but a penalty took them out of field goal range. The score was 34-20 after 3 quarters.

However, the Saints got back in the game with a touchdown, and they got a first and goal. However, Devery Henderson was tackled short of the end zone on 3rd down and New Orleans had to settle for 3. Then came one of the greatest runs in NFL playoff history.

On a 2nd and 10 Lynch ran up the middle and broke 3 tackles, then cut to the right and stiff-armed Super Bowl 44 hero Tracy Porter. 2 more guys dove and missed Lynch, and he backflipped into the end zone to cap off a huge run.

New Orleans got a touchdown, but the onside kick went right to John Carlson, giving Seattle the win. The Seahawks will play the Bears if the Packers win; the Falcons if the Eagles win today. That game is at 1:30 PM PT.

NY Jets at Indianapolis
Rex Ryan finally got his defensive plan to work against the Colts! Well, it didn't work completely, but it was good enough to give the Jets what they needed to win.

Nick Folk made a 32 yard field goal as time expired to give the Jets a 17-16 win over Indianapolis. The Jets will play against the Patriots next Sunday afternoon in Foxboro.

Although the Jets got into Indianapolis territory 5 times in 5 drives , they couldn't put any points on the board. However, midway through the second quarter Peyton Manning found Pierre Garcon on a deep post to give the Colts the 7-0 halftime lead.

The Jets finally got started in the 3rd, going 2 for 2 on 3rd down and getting to the Colts 1. LaDainlian Tomlinson powered in to tie the score at 7, but Indianapolis responded with an Adam Vinateri field goal. The Colts led 10-7 after 3 quarters.

But the Jets would get back into Colt territory, and after a flip pass to Tomlinson picked up a first Mark Sanchez scrambled for a first. At the 1, LT bursted in for another touchdown, giving the Jets a 14-10 lead. However, a field goal and a stop gave the Colts the ball back.

Manning found Jacob Tamme twice and Blair White twice, setting up a 50 yard field goal for Adam Vinateri. Vinateri drilled the kick, but Indy left 53 seconds on the clock for Mark Sanchez, Antonio Cromartie, and the Jets.

Cromartie took the ensuing kickoff up the middle, then he cut to the right sideline and was finally pushed out of bounds at the 45. Then, after a 9 yard pass to Braylon Edwards Sanchez hit Santonio Holmes on a short out to get the ball to the Indianapolis 34.

The Colts helped their opponents with a timeout and gave New York time to diagram a play. Braylon Edwards ran 20 yards straight then cut back and caught a pass at the 14. After calling a timeout quick the Jets set up a 32 yard field goal, which Nick Folk drilled. The Jets had won!
