Big East Debate
Comparing these polls to the ESPN/USA Today Polls, the Big East has teams ranked 13, 23, 25, and one that is right outside of the polls. The USA Today polls has NO team from the Big East in the Top 25 from the Big East, but if 13 Cincinnati can repeat their Big East title, 23 Rutgers can continue their 5 game win streak, and 25 USF and Pitt can make the Top 10 and stay there, the Big East will be a conference to talk about.
Teams that lost stars: Texas Tech and Georgia's fate in 09
Matthew Stafford, Knowshon Moreno and Mohammed Massoquoi. Michael Crabtree and Graham Harrell. Georgia made the Capital One bowl and took the title. Texas Tech made the Cotton Bowl and had the Pontiac Play of the year when Harrell hit Crabtree on the out of bounds corner, Crabtree stayed on bounds and with one second left, scored the game-winner. That is all behind them as the 2 unranked teams both face tough schedules. Texas Tech has 3 Oklahoma at home, and then 2 Texas, Nebraska, and 9 Oklahoma State on the road. Georgia has the Florida game in Jacksonville, 14 LSU at home and 9 Oklahoma State and 18 Georgia Tech on the road this year. The Red Raiders will be led by sophomores Baron Batch [RB] and WR Detron Lewis, while A.J Green will be the lead WR, while Caleb King starts at RB for Georgia. Are these guys capable of filling big holes? Find out during the season.
Gameday Discussion: 12 Alabama vs. 10 Virginia Tech
This is just the beginning of LOTS of SEC and ACC drama. Tyrod Taylor, who is a sophomore, is just outstanding as a quarterback and a running back. Another great back #32 Darren Evans is back for more drama in Hokietown. Evans had 1265 yards out of 287 carries, giving him an average of 4.4 yards per carry. The Hokies have many great returning starters, but taking on Alabama and #8 Julio Jones who will be a breakout sophomore this year, but receiving passes from a different quarterback will make a big difference. Mark Ingram will be getting the ball instead of Glen Coffee, so I can see a rebuilding Tide squad. I see a 31-27 Hokies win, but it will be trouble in Atlanta.
09 Sleeper: 18 Georgia Tech
With Jonathan Dwyer, one of the best backs in the nation and a Heisman sleeper, Dwyer will show ACC fans who's really in charge. Junior breakout Jos Nebsitt returns, and him and WR Demaryius Thomas could help Dwyer lead Georgia Tech to a big year. I like to give Georgia Tech some hope this year.
That wraps up this episode of the Ultimate College Football. Stay Tuned.
