Baylor vs. Duke

    The Duke Blue Devils were ready to end the drought of the number one seeds. However, the Baylor Bears came prepared and ready to go. Baylor dominated St. Mary's and looked like the better team.

    Nolan Smith scored a career high 29, Jon Scheyer scored 18 and hit some key threes as Duke beat Baylor 78-71 to punch a ticket to the Final Four. However, Baylor took a 3-0 lead early and hung with Duke the entire game.


     Ekpe Udoh got fouled on a dunk and made the free throw, and with 12:54 left in half 1 the score was 11-11. Andre Dawkins hit a 3, but Quincy Acy converted a 3 point play. Nolan Smith hit a 3 from the left perimeter, and 2 threes by Jon Scheyer gave Duke a 25-18 lead.


     LaceDarius Dunn scored 4 for Baylor, and Tweety Carter hit a pull-up three to cut the deficit to 27-25. Dunn got a steal and a dunk to make it a 1 point game, and 4 by Quincy Acy and a 3 from the right perimeter gave Baylor a 35-29 lead. Andre Dawkins hit a 3 from the left wing for Duke and the score was 35-32 at the half.


     Jon Scheyer hit a pull-up three to tie the score at 35, but Josh Lomers scored on a layup. Ekpe Udoh scored on a dunk, and a 3 by Anthony Jones put Baylor up 42-37. Duke split a pair of free throws, but they grabbed the rebound off the second and they made 3 free throws. After 2 free throws by Nolan Smith Duke grabbed a 45-44 lead.


     Brian Zoubek hit a tip-in, and Duke was up 51-47. Tweety Carter hit a jumper, and a dunk by Udoh tied the score at 51 with 9:46. LaceDarius Dunn scored 4 straight for Baylor and the Bears led 57-54. Scheyer tied it at 57 with a 3 from the middle, but a dunk by Quincy Acy put Baylor back up 59-57. Scheyer hit another 3, but Udoh hit a jumper to give Baylor a 61-60 lead with 3:36 left.


    Smith made 1 of 2 free throws, then he hit a 3 from the left perimeter. Scheyer hit a 3 from the middle, and Lance Thomas followed up a 3 point miss with a dunk and a free throw to give Duke a 70-62 lead. A technical foul off of a timeout on Baylor gave Duke 2 more points and a 72-62 lead. Duke held on with free throws, and the Devils advanced to play West Virginia in the Final Four.
