Pac-10 bowls

It is almost bowl season, but 7/8/9 teams have accepted bowl bids, and the Pac-10 is a tough picture. We talk about it now.

Rose Bowl: USC
Opponent: Penn St.[ official]
Southern Cal can go to the Rose Bowl if they avoid any upset vs. rival UCLA in the Carroll/Neuhisel rivalry. UCLA is out of a bowl but still wants upset v. USC. 2 years ago SC lost at the Bruins in a defensive struggle, 13-9. They win 31-10 at UCLA and go to the Rose Bowl. I think PSU wins 23-17 in a defensive struggle.

Holiday Bowl: Oregon
Opponent: Missouri
Oregon increased their Holiday Bowl chances with a 65-38 Civil War win over OSU and will go unless SC loses to UCLA. Then they go to the Sun Bowl, Emerald Bowl or Las Vegas Bowl. Mizzzou would go to the Fiesta Bowl with a Big 12 conference title over 3 Oklahoma. Masoli, Johnson and the rest of the OU players like LeGarrete Blount lead OU to a 45-17 win.

Sun Bowl: Oregon St.
Opponent: Pittsburgh
A loss to Oregon lost the Beavers Rose Bowl hopes and need UCLA to beat SC to go to the Rose. OSU will most likely go to the Sun Bowl, as Jacquizz Rogers will look to lead OSU to victory with his brother, James. Pitt is led by top RB LeSean McCoy and QB Bill Stull look to lead Pitt. I think Quizz runs wild and OSU wins 38-28.

Las Vegas: Arizona
Opponent: TCU
Arizona will probably go to the Vegas bowl because of a deal reached by the Emerald Bowl director and Vegas bowl officials. Arizona plays 5-6 ASU in the Tetorrial Cup on Saturday and will go to the Vegas Bowl with a win and the Hawaii Bowl vs. Hawaii with a loss and ASU would go to the Vegas Bowl. Their opponent would likely be 12 TCU, 10-2, 7-1. The Frogs played great ball all year, and get my pick 45-31.

Emerald: CAL
Opponent: Miami FL
The Bears will go to the Emerald Bowl because of a deal reached by the Emerald and Vegas bowls. Cal is 7-4 and plays winless Washington at home on Saturday. Cal has played well all year and better than their record, 6-0 at home and the Emerald Bowl in SF is like a home game. Miami FL is a good team on a 2 game losing streak including a 38-28 loss to NC St. and I think Miami FL is no match for Cal espacially with the Hurricanes 2 game losing streak. Cal 52, Miami 17
P.S Cal can go to the Sun Bowl if UCLA beats USC.

Hawaii Bowl
A Pac-10 team can't go to the Hawaii Bowl vs. Hawaii unless Arizona St. beats Arizona. Then Zona goes to the Hawaii Bowl. I think Zona wins 48-21, and I think a Non Pac-10 team goes to the Hawaii bowl.

A's Fall To White Sox On Walk-Off Home Run

In late innings, the Oakland Athletics are almost unstoppable. However, Jordan Danks found a way to stop the A's. Danks hit a home run to right with two outs in the ninth to propel the White Sox to a 4-3 win over the A's. Both teams are competing in the AL Wild Card race, so the loss is crucial for the A's, who received a solid outing from Brandon McCarthy in his return from the DL. McCarthy allowed three earned runs in six-plus innings pitched, and the two teams were tied after seven innings. Both teams received solid efforts from the bullpen, but the White Sox triumphed at the end. Dayan Viciedo, A.J Pierzynski and Alexi Ramirez also homered, all taking advantage of mistakes by McCarthy. McCarthy gave Ramirez a meatball in the fourth, and he hit it deep to left field. Viciedo and Pierzynski both hit outside pitches into the seats for the White Sox. Taking My Talents Back to Baily's Sports and Stuff...And My Thoughts on Al Davis vs the NFL

I've recently gotten captivated by the practice of journaling - generally on my own thoughts that I notice and how I feel at various moments. This has been a transformative practice in my personal life in enabling me to be more honest with myself (which is really hard!) - whether that be about discomfort I feel, what conditions provide a state of flow, or anything in between. The ability to document my life on paper - and go back and read what resonated with me at a particular point in time - has been a similarly great practice for me. Recently, the excitement of playoff football and midseason basketball has led to me pursuing a similar practice in my personal journal - airing out thoughts on sports ranging from stats I've tried to memorize to my (often unwanted) psychological analysis on a given athlete / situation.
